My wife was just confirmed catholic and I could not find the materials for a layered cross build at all, but this is quite doable! thank you!!

Thank you for posting this.. my brother wanted me to make him a cross for Christmas. I live across the country so our Christmas is in February this year..I am working on it this weekend and am basically copying yours! Can’t wait to give it to him and I’m making one for myself as well. Thanks again!

Nice work but your appear to be afraid of your table saw . Stand to the right of the blade and use a feather board as well as a push block. Your asking to get hurt the way your going about your work flow. Again ,love the video Cheers

Hello Steven. Nice short concise video with good visuals to go along. Very easy to follow and replicate or customize from the basic plan offered. Padauk and maple are always looking good together and padauk pretty much demands that close fiber of maple in order not to bleed. Most other woods are st the mercy of padauk during the sanding g process Actually it is a good test if your dust extraction equipment even short amount of sawing or sanding should be visible right away in the filters if your system is adequate. Or your lungs for that matter Happy Easter/ Harleymike /ChicAgo

Thanks for the comment! I had also thought about using Purple Heart, but it can sometimes change color from purple to brown. It still may be a good contrast though.
@michaeldunn52804 жыл бұрын
Four Oaks Crafts it is a nice contrast against maple but lime you say. Most all of the time it loses that nice freshly planed purple color within a year and steadily darkens. Defeating the purpose of why we buy purple heart in the first palce

Beautiful design, will probably incorporate into a project I am working on. Just wondered if a table router would have been an alternative to making the center cuts for the inside cross
@fouroakscrafts72402 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do that as long as you have a way to keep the channel straight. You could also do it with a dado blade if you have a table saw. But a router would also work.

Nice work how come you don't have revving knife on your saw I see alot of wood workers without them I'm wondering if I should take mine off it does get in the way sometime
@fouroakscrafts72402 жыл бұрын
I can't remember why I didn't have it on there. It is a nice safety feature to have. I still try to stay to one side and use my push sticks to avoid kickback or binding. If you have the revving knife currently on your saw and it's not in your way, I'd recommend keeping it on. But table saws went for years without them, so it also boils down to safe techniques and how you handle the wood on the table saw, the position of your hands and body. Thanks for the comment and question!

Awesome Beautiful Cross. I like the video and I love the wood. Where did you get the redwood from? I would like to have about 4 boards about the size you had there. Thanks for sharing your video. Many thumbs up to you and your video. I love the music also.

I got the Padauk and Maple from The WoodYard over in Concord Georgia. It's south of the Atlanta Metro area. But if you're near a woodworking store like Woodcraft or Rockler, they may carry this wood also. Or you can try ordering it online. Thanks for the questions and comments!

Beautiful project. Not meant to be ugly with this suggestion, however please consider adjusting your position when running your table saw. When ripping, you're way off to the side. Not the safest position, respectfully.

I love it! Beautiful and I have already started on building a few for the family! Quick question - what method did you use to hang this up? Thanks for sharing your video. 😊
@fouroakscrafts7240 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You can use any picture hanging hardware - should work fine. Or you could router in a slot in the back and simply hang on a screw or nail in the wall.

I think the look would be improved if you had caped the ends with maple just a thin piece

Can you tell me is the length of the cross 18 inches or 20.25 inches
@fouroakscrafts72402 жыл бұрын
The total length is 20.25 inches by 14.25 inches wide. You can of course change your overall dimensions. Give me just a minute and I'll add a link to my website post that shows the dimensions. Hope this helps.

I Did you have any issues with the Paduak bleeding into the maple while sanding?
@fouroakscrafts72404 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! It started to bleed over, but the maple came out clean in the end. I kept the sander moving and cleaned off the dust.
@dledward4 жыл бұрын
Four Oaks Crafts thanks. I think Maple is close grained enough to keep the dust out. The cross is beautiful.
