For an ASMR video it was just right. Enjoyable to just watch the final product develop without stretching things out too far. But enough details to let folks see what you did and have a go at something similar themselves. I really like my Krenov style planes. Still the ones I enjoy using the most.

My bandsaw isn't as accurate as yours so I use my tablesaw instead when making a plane. This one turned out beautifully. Adding the brass strip to the strike end of the wedge is a nice detail. I've used 3/8" brass rod for the crosspin a few times. As with your plane, it adds a little bling. Good job with the plane and the video.
@boreoff2 ай бұрын
yes I don' actually own a table saw but presumably if set up correctly it will give a good enough finish for the iron bed so that would make sense. It's good to add a little bit of customisation on things and I have strips of copper and brass left over from other projects so why not 😊 Glad you liked it, warm regards

The piles of Ebony in my shop are calling to me. Did you make this video to encourage me to stop sitting on it and make those axe and hammer handles I have planned, in a (maybe ill-fated) attempt to recreate the work of Poom’s Project? I think you did and, as a fellow galoot hand tool woodworker that loves working exotic woods, I think the algorithm is trying to pair us up - and I am here for it!
@boreoff2 ай бұрын
hilarious glad the algo is working hahah - yes go for it and make use of the Ebony - don't save it, never do that...

beautiful! How did you drill the hole on the other side after the glue up?
@boreoff2 ай бұрын
thank you - I just passed the drill bit through the hole on the other side - it was long enough - and that acted as the guide - as you have worked out things slip in the glue up even with the dowels so good to leave that to after...cheers

Hello Sir, I like your plane. Looks like a great user. I wonder if you have any opinion on wear bevels on wooden planes, or whether they are necessary? I would like to add that your work stands on its own on youtube. I'd love to see and hear more about what you've learned over the years. For example your choice of tools, choice of consumables, choice of workshop fixtures and strategies and jigs. Thanks a bunch for uploading.
@boreoff15 күн бұрын
Hi, many thanks for your feedback and comment. If you are referring to creating a back side bevel (the ruler trick) I have never bothered or needed to concern myself with that tbh. So no, not necessary but this is just my experience. All the best...
@myyoutubepage114 күн бұрын
@@boreoff Hi, The wearbevel is a feature of the mouth of some wooden planes (especially single-iron planes), where the bottom of the mouth is at a similar angle to the blade bed, while the top of the mouth is at its normal angle. As I understand it, this both allows reflattening of the plane sole over time without opening the mouth, and offers similar benefits to a chipbreaker -- re-directing the angle of the shaving while it goes through the mouth of the plane. KZbin channel "dusty splinters" has some videos on this concept including helpful diagrams. I have tried the wear bevel on one of my planes, but I am still unsure how much of a difference it makes.
@boreoff14 күн бұрын
Thanks 🙏 very interesting- I will check that out. I rarely flatten the sole again partly cause I use lignum vitae which is very hard so no chipping and most of mine are short. Also I tend to use my LN no4 for smoothing where I might notice any issues. I have built a few with cap irons but don’t notice any difference between those and the single iron ones tbh! All the best
