"Wooden Ships" (Crosby, Stills, and Nash Cover) by Foxes and Fossils, Reaction/Analysis

69 years old and I grew up with CSN, my favorite band. Wooden Ships is right at the top of the list of my favorites. These people are the only ones I have ever heard that are capable of crushing their songs. It's astonishing how well they can play, and the vocals are spectacular.

Bassist Rick Meeder played with Tim and Toby with The Mustsngs in the late '90s before Scott King joined. He has played for 16 years in the Jimmy approved official Buffet tribute band A1A. He was ready and wiiling to step in and help out shortly after Scott passed away. Along with Ross King, they are the "guest bass players". Scott is forever the 'official' F&F bass player. 22 years playing with Tim in The Mustangs and F&F. (RIP)

A truly epic performance. It sent chills up and down. The song debuted in 1969 - 54 years ago. I liked it then, but have a lot more appreciation for it after this performance (and, of course, after 53 more years to develop my appreciation for all music).

Great cover of a great song. I had chills even all the way down my legs. Kudos to the singers, evoking the unique and recognizable CSN harmonizing. Lead singer, guitars, drums & bass are all on point. Keep up the excellent work. Bravo!

Dude I had tears in my eyes. I first heard this on WNEW FM NY on the Night Bird show, I was in Jr. High school many years later my band played this at a concert. Wow these guy's are so tight. This is not an easy song to learn or cover. Your so on point in your break down. 🤙👍

Hello Jeff, We love your channel. It's good to get your reactions on this incredible band. When I first heard them years ago, I was blown away. It's good to get feedback from a music expert like yourself to confirm my opinion. My wife and I let a family friend of ours who also knows music very well, listen to them for the first time. She slowly removed her headphones and with an approving sigh said " Well one thing I can say about them is there is not one person in this group that is a weak link. Every vocalist and musician in this group is a top tier professional!" That was her opinion, and she is a person that tells it like it is. Love F&F and their covers. Wooden Ships is a great song and CSN&Y and their version is great as shown by this video, I like the Jefferson Airplane version noting that Paul Katner, rhythm guitarist with the Airplane is a co-writer of the song.

These guys do some amazing covers. This is one of their best. A young guy that does a great cover is Josh Turner Guitar. He and his talented friends, do some fantastic stuff. I think they are worth a listen.

Despite requesting this I have to say it is NOT one of my favorite CSN songs. But the musical talent it takes to perform it well is insane. As you point out there are a lot of little things that go into this being a fantastic production. Things like how Darwin and Toby switch up the guitar part much as Tim and Darwin switch the vocals. This one also focuses much more on the instruments than on the vocals so you really get to see how good the fossils are. Great commentary on this one Jeff, but too bad it wasn't in a parking lot!
