At 3:29:00 you say “oohh fuck off vauthry” it made me chuckle because that’s exactly what I said 😂

This series has been great to watch after having just finished 5.0. The moment you discussed how you can’t discuss the lore and story because people are already further into it is a thing I regret as well. Listening to you theorize and discuss the story have been a great way of getting a part of that back. Thanks for that. I started watching you when GW2 was announced and have been following you since. You have not only kept my interest in GW2 but also created an interest in FFXIV for me. Thanks

About GW2 vs FFXIV. For GW2 I tend to enjoy every minute when playing an expansion or living world episode but have a feeling of lost potential afterwards. While for FFXIV I sometimes get bored by the actual gameplay when following the MSQ but it gives so much more to think about afterwards. Not yet completely sure why this is

When talking about MMO players being blinded by nostalgia it reminded me about talking with old FFXI players, which I'm one of. I've never seen a community filled with so many nostalgia blinded people. That game was fun for what it was back in the day but to even consider dedicating the massive amount of time just to look for a group for a leveling party in this age sounds so painful.

Im actually quite interested in the add-ons WP has been using does anyone off hand know which ones they are for the HUD?

Check out FFXIV Launcher, it comes with all the addon integration. I think WP uses quite a few of them.

Guild Wars 2 has nothing to say. Even if they had traditional quests, Anet is not interested in telling deep stories. The voice acting excuse is very convenient but FFXIV has much more music and that music is of a higher quality than GW2 for example. Edit: and yeah, even if they did, 90% of players new aren't gonna be bothered to go and get those story steps from the gemstore anyway. Arenanet does not care about its own story enough to make it easy for new players to experience it, let alone actually write a deep narrative. Edit 2:of course ff14 players see the patches as part of the expansion, they know that there's gonna be post expansion patches then a new expansion, not some delusional fever dream like the Icebrood Saga. Edit 3: I like low-energy WP, very comfy to watch. c: Edit4: I appreciate that little talk about your own life and your job prospects and such. It's not an easy thing to talk about, especially to random people on the internet, but it's probably something a lot of people have thought about "I wanna leave this job and start a youtube/twitch career!" me included, but we're all missing the context of what it actually means, you know? So thanks

@SayreHarder that’s just an opinion mate, FF is a franchise just as successful as Warcraft and existed long before the whole WoW saga recently. FF is a premier JRPG and FF14 nods to a lot of this in how it tells its story and positions it’s mechanics. For each WoW player there’s several JRPG players (like WP), console gamers, housing role-players, crafters, etc. that also play. And these experiences are different from what GW2 offers, so there’s no real argument to say “people should play GW2 instead” because they offer different experiences - you can play and enjoy both. Again FF14 gameplay may not be technically as good as GW2 in a lot of respects (like moment to moment combat) but a game is much more than just that. It’s an experience that includes things like the overall world, content, music, community, roleplay, competition, etc.

@@saxonknight0 I agree that FF14 and GW2 fill very different roles but that's not necessarily because they want to be. Both games have glaring strengths and weaknesses but I think FF14's strengths are more satisfying for the majority of players while GW2s weaknesses tend to be more disappointing. GW2's storyline rarely seems to live up to the potential they've set up while FF14 is consistently exceeding expectations in recent years. GW2 has the more interesting and engaging combat and action but FF14's (recent) combat is, for most, still well done enough to not drive players away. I'd also agree that GW2 has a better open world experience but that experience is mostly geared towards solo play, which is outdone by many single player focused games anyhow. For people that don't care too much about story but enjoy action, I think GW2 is probably the way to go.

18:45 I have to call BS on this because that's exactly what you're doing as the protagonist in FF14. You're combating a threat to the existence of your world and the people in it to see your version of reality stay prominent and by doing so you're essentially denying millions of people their lives/existence. However, there is definitely more to the situation that you don't know at this point in the story.
