It always was. We are voters in Canada voting for a Canadian government. If it is not Canada first, what exactly were governments going for?

Just be very careful what you mean by the rhetoric. We are much better off having a stable and trusting relationship where the trust is validated. Every dollar wasted on security theater reduces total wealth. Every non-essential trade barrier reduces total wealth. Having a common law that trusts each other is way better than one country making a series of precedent that make cooperation difficult. The United States has officially entered the winner-take-all phase of an unstable democracy however. Trump might be temporary, but his efforts to destabilize can cause long-term damage

@ Trust is from mutual respect and understanding. Reciprocal benefits are the foundation of any meaningful and sustainable relationship and partnership… Kneeling down will not win you benefits except more exploitation. Can you see and understand that?!

@@qjsharing2408 forgive me for jumping in, but can you please explain what you mean by “stable and trusting”? It seems to me, that an approach of “must think of Canada and Canadians first”, to be a sensible preliminary approach for all of our politicians and institutions at the federal level. This “stability and trust”, which I would consider laziness and general incompetence, has allowed us to NOT develop interprovincial trade, thus making every province individually much more reliant on the US than could have been the case. We have successfully built Ontario first, or Alberta first, or Quebec first but Canada? We have certainly not invested in that at all and have relied on the States too much.

I don't understand why the reason for the proposed tarrifs is not considered.... Trump said the issue was the border and fentanyl.... Is that not a reasonable request??? It may come off as unreasonable but the heart of, the goal of the proposed tarrifs are.

Please avoid putting the huge tech corporations in the centre of this, especially when it comes to AI. We still don't know how much information has been kept nor how it's been used. No Elon Musk, no Zuckerberg, no Bill Gates please. Spread the word beyond just these corporations.

Arctic priority? "A network of sensors networked into a common data architecture"? We have that in the South China Sea. What then matters? Actual ships, actual projection of force. Canada needs people and stations in our Arctic - that's what will deter trespassers.

The invasion of Ukraine and rise of autocracies may have changed Canadians views on security, a frame of reference from Paul Martin in 1995 is too long ago and more seems to have changed perspectives... the latest vitriol from DJT, though temporal, risks galvanizing Canadians against America. Strategic, quiet conversations are so necessary but unfortunately that has to reach provincial leaders... that is the understanding that needs to get to all of the players.. unfortunately, some have fallen into the political brinkmanship and game playing.

Canada has lost its way in recent years , largely due to the course chartered by the federal government under the leadership of Justin Trudeau. Post national state approach to national identity, policies that are deterimental to the critical energy sector, profligate government spending, largely out of control immigration, pervasive identity politics, infringement on matters under provincial jurisdiction, damaged the country economically and in terms of political and social cohesion. Overall, the country is in a much weakened state, and therefore much less prepared to face President-elect Trump second term in office. Strong personal animus between Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump, as evidenced by the former recent "i am feminist" speech, will not help the matters.

Remind me again who cut defence spending in Canada and set us back severely? Oh yes, it was Conservative Stephen Harper. Trudeau has increased defence spending but it's hard to catch up on the lost opportunity to buy defence goods at 2000's prices.
