HAHAHAHA! I used to listen to this song on high school and rock their t-shirt with friends, Woods of Desolation, Nocturnal Depression, Lustre, Thy Light, Happy Days, Sadness, Agalloch, etc and I could go on forever. are one of those bands that could fill the void.

"I drown in the sadness of your eyes Behind them the knowing My every touch turns to ash My every word fades to silence No savior in the beat of your heart From this curse that drags me down Suffocating veil of misery The foreshadow of my demise The warmth of a thousand suns, drawn away And fade before my eyes The Inevitable End, I always knew would be The truth you could always see Once again cast unto the dark To the coldest night, and misery's dawn But with it, I shall depart And feel your warmth once more..." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love listening to black metal songs, and songs from genres like grindcore, goregrind, etc. And try to make out the lyrics. This song has the most beautiful and amazing lyrics I have heard in a while.

The beauty of the riffs... The way that the lyrics go deep into your head, towards the voice... You feel the pain, you feel the melody... That's DSBM for me, and Woods of Desolation is the best part of it.

You are actually quite close to one POSSIBLE "answer". You have to get to a point were you dissolve in the music, a point past "vocals and music" where it all starts to blend into one big picture. Vocals dont matter that much all there is is a deep feeling that allows you to connect with a deeper beauty that lies in the existence itself, a clear image of all that is , all that was, all that will ever be. A song like this is just a door into that world and the voice just a part of that door.

The poster wasn't stating his opinion based on ignorance; rather lacked the vocabulary to accurately explain his thoughts through words. He was attemting to point out the juxtaposition between the romantic melodies coupled with the gut wrenching vocals. Beauty through pain so to speak. In my opinion, I think he's spot on: it is hideous screeching. If it doesn't send a chill up your spine it defeats the purpose of the genre. It's supposed to make the listener feel somewhat unsettled...
