Very lucky you were traveling the direction where the falling rocks weren't a danger. Really pretty through that section.

Falling rocks are always a danger, but luckily fairly rare.

An interesting vlog Phil. The rear-view camera adds an interesting perspective, including your wee tete-a-tetes with fellow boaters. And nice t-shirt promo! :)

I usually delete the sound from the rear camera because my engine is too loud to attempt any commentary. If the engine was quiet there would be no problem.

Another enjoyable amble through this beautiful narrow and variable canalscape. For a while, as you progressed those deeper darker dankier red rockier parts, that a stray remnant dinosaur might quietly saunter out, but no such luck this time. I did wonder what was the purpose of those occasional brick built cassons by the bankside, do you know. On a very big thumbs-up side I was pleasantly pleased to notice your "single" plant photo. I do lament at how few folk can identify the flora about them. ..you could lead the way by showing and naming those you spot. As Pocahontas sings in the Disney movies, every tree and rock has its name! Oh and I do wonder as so many boat tubers seem to be on the Ashby this month I'm surprised you seem to meet so few. All in all a hearty hunk of lovely vlogging. ..love the Tee too. Best wishes to you and the travelling cats...Bon Voyage always. ML

For a while as you progressed that deepest cutting...I did seriously wonder if a lumbering Jurassic pal might join you...but my spell "wrecker" wrecked my words...but it didn't spoil my enjoyment... Sorry to see a thumbs downer??? Once again. ..bliss to you and your Tee-Shirt. ( Still enjoy your music too )

Thank you. I like ferns. You don't see many at all in Oxfordshire but there are many in Shropshire. The same goes for Foxgloves.

That was lovely. So pretty. It was nice to get glimpses of you on the tiller and chatting to passing boaters. The t-shirt is great!

I've been mostly watching on the Telly using my partners ID. So not commenting. My go to when I need to relax. I love the really narrow canals with steep sides. Enjoy your tunes also!

Good afternoon Phil, another very nice video, a pleasant interlude in a very dull and dreary day here in Wales. I'm always struck by the enormity of the task when I see deep cuttings and tunnels on the Cut, especially when hewn through solid rock. Even more impressive an achievement considering the tools and methods available at the time. A few moments before you met Georgina I was wondering how two boats could pass each other, especially in the very narrow sections, I assume one or the other would have to reverse to a wider section. If this section got busy in peak season I'd have thought it would be extremely vexatious to put it mildly. Hope this recent bout of foul weather hasn't caused you problems, our local rivers and streams are brim full at present. Thanks for posting. Regards.

Thank you. It seems wide enough to pass in quite a few places but there are many submerged rocks near the edges that you can't see.

Great vlog Phil. I wish the CRT would spend the monies they receive NOT on new offices nor on regional directors paid £100k per year but on the canals they are meant to look after. On your current canal the rocks should be lifted and proper mooring constructed. The locks on the Huddersfield narrow and Leeds Liverpool and Rochdale are in a terrible state. Plant growth undermining the structural integrity of the locks. There is a place on the Shroppie called the " Goldstone" Where there looks a brilliant pub and residential mooring. I could live there if I think I would enjoy life there. Keep safe Phil I look forward to your posts.

Was at the bridge where you met Georgina a few weeks back. I hovered to let a boat past and stayed hovering as another one was only a couple of minutes behind (8 mins ahem😉), finally got under the bridge to find another boat almost immediately that the second hadnt mentioned. The joys of boating indeed. Lovely vlog👍

Thank you. It's usually best to do these tricky places at "off peak" times. Woodseaves Cutting would be great to do at night!

OK i asked this of another with no response so i will ask you too. just before you pass under the bridges on the left hand side there are platforms one per bridge. what might they be for? they look out of place.....???? perhaps you can shed some light on this question??
@NarrowboatJourneys4 жыл бұрын
You mean those box-like things? They contain large planks of wood that can be slotted into a groove across the canal to dam it. Those sections of the canal can then be drained for repairs.
@MagicaLucem5 жыл бұрын
Just to add ... My automatic spell "wrecker" seems always less erudite that l, and crops and chops my comments. I do hope my meaning creeps through. I do so wish a Jurassic pal would have lumbered out in that evocative section of the canal...a new Lock Ness style tradition could be added to the UFO world of canalia. Strange to see a thumbs-downer has visited your site..curious and sad.. So please add my forever thumbs-ups to your psyche and my highest of regards. Good luck to you, tee shirt, travelling cats, lovely music and all.
