Wow is the correct response, without a doubt! I have worked with wood; professionally, for 42 years. I've had the honor of using many beautiful pieces, full of character during that time. This stick of cocobolo is the finest example of highly figured wood I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing the video!

@@wadeedens9785 Wade, thank you. I often suspect people have no true understanding of how rare some pieces of wood can be. I feel blessed to get to work with it.

Thank you Lance! We make Native American Style Flutes out of every wood possible. We love burls, curls, crazy grain, etc!. This Cocobolo is indeed the best I've seen in over 20 years or working with this wood. We've made 3 flutes from it so far, and they are AMAZING!! One of them is 42 inches long btw!! A monster!! Stay tuned! We are showing the whole building process of these incredible flutes!

Cocobolo is a beautiful wood that I nearly made all my counter tops. My counter people had trouble with that type of wood and decided on Zebra wood, no regrets. 😊

A WORD OF CAUTION !!!! About 15 years ago I was living in Panama City, Panama Running fishing charters on a 58ft Hatteras sportfish. The galley floor was getting pretty beat up and having worked as a shipwright in the past I decided to tackle the project during the off-season. Off I went to the lumberyard to buy materials for the teak and holly design I had in mind. What an experience that was. Hardwoods were sold as rough-sawn timbers. The teak was plantation-grown second-growth and not suitable for my purpose. I ended up with a piece of rough 4x6 Cocobolo I found in an old shed that was at least air-dried and a piece of white wood similar to the properties of Holly that I never found out the name of. I milled it all down to 2"X5/16" Cocobolo slats and 3/8"X3/8" whitewood accents with a small bandsaw and a table saw in a small shop we rented. There was no AC or dust extraction, the temp was in the 90s with close to 90% humidity. Luckily I did wear a dust mask because within a few days everywhere the sawdust touched me I broke out in hives. THE SAWDUST IS VERY TOXIC. That was the first time I ever had a reaction to any of the many species I have worked with. The floor project turned out awesome and I still love to work with cocobolo carefully.

@@RobertAdair-i5o i am aware. A non-sensitice person can also develop sensitivity. Working wood is not trivial.

Hey Brent, that is some really awesome coloring and grain patterns. Although I've never worked with cocobolo before this reminds me of the 1/8th inch thick bookmatched resawn veneers I used to take part in making for the custom furniture we made when I worked in a couple small shops back in the 1980's. This wood will make some beautiful flutes. Until next time P.S. , When are you going to buy a dust collector?

@glenndent6626 we are getting there Roy! I actually have the collector. I need to install everything and there are some significant parts that still need done. Right now we are putting DROs on the mill and the lathe. Also, I am installing a water cooled spindle on the lathe. It is exciting to me as I contemplate how I will be able to use these improvements.
