Mr. Johnson,I would like to applaud you for first coming up with a great idea such as this, but most importantly,be willing to share it out here for all to see without charging an arm and a leg for plans. It indeed shows your kindness and love of the hobby.I was a metal machinist/toolmaker for 20+ years, and am now disabled for the last 12 years.I'm finally taking an interest in trying my hand at woodturning to try to motivate me to get off my rear.Your video is inspiring.Thank You again Sir!

Great video , thanks. Built the stomper and got the alignment disk. Mentioned prices for the parts of course went up (2012 - 2021), as expected. Gluing up 12 segment rings presently………thanks.

As a member of Northwest Woodturning of Portland, OR. Thank you for posting such an informative clip. I have segmented several bowls, but none so accurately as you demonstrate. Thanks and happy turning to all.

Wow, I'm not a real turner, I have a lathe and have made some things round. I have always been fascinated with segmented turning but just haven't gotten to that point yet. I am really impressed with your product, it looks like something pro's and newbies can use. The fact that you showed how to make one just blew me away. I takes a guy who really loves his craft to share like that, My hat is off to you sir.

great design. And I love open source. Designing something useful and then sharing the design with the world. Most folks think that is shooting yourself in the foot. But there are many businesses out there that are making a living with open source stuff because yes someone can make your things but alot would rather just buy it outright. Well done.

I like how the stomper makes glue up more precise. Also I like how you show how to make the stomper. I do have one suggestion: HD video. This video is good but a little grainy. Keep up the awesome work!

Oscar, I use the Stomper all the time. I never use the lathe to set up rings anymore. One thing I've added were glue blocks that sit in the chuck that I remove after I glue on the first ring. I marked the chuck with a black marker at the number one chuck location and the corresponding place on the wood block so that I. An remove it from the chuck and then reinstall later on. I also use a small forstner bit to indent the center of the wood block so that the spring loaded shaft will end centered all the time. Now I. An use my chuck on my lathe for other work. I use 5 to ten lbs of weight on top of the wood block to weigh it down while the glue sets. I hope I'be help you. Best of luck in your turning projects. Richard....

I like turning green wood, so I doubt I will ever turn segmented bowls or vessels. But I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video and will suggest it to my friends who do turn segmented pieces. Great idea and presentation.

I’m new to all this, but I’ll start by saying, “ Gosh, darn! you’re a clever fellow.” I wonder how long it took you, hunting through the box stores to find that weird, lucky combination. Thanks so much for sharing. Can’t wait to follow the rest of your videos and add this skill to my lathe-life.

I figure that by combining weight lifting and woodturning, I can count my entire shop time as workout time. In my mind, this makes perfect sense.

I keep a container of Q-tips that are soaking in water near me when I'm adding the open segment rings. As soon as I've added the weights, I take one Q-tip and squeeze the water out of both ends. I then insert one end in a gap and then rotate that Q-tip and insert it in the next gap. I then flop the Q-tip end-for-end and do the same thing to the next two gaps. I then return the Q-tip to the water and grab another one. This works really well and you have to look really hard to find glue.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing so wetll and freely. That was some real creative thinking. I think it is funny how some have reacted simply for mentioning HF. There are some jems there like f clamps that many good you tuber creators using them. If it works and it's cheap, why not.

The PVC Table Cap has three holes that are used for mounting. You first have to have a hole that is approximately 7/8". The diameter of this hole is not important because all the centering is done from centering the SegEasy plates around the plunger. You just use three #6 x 5/8" wood screws and attach it from underneath.

Lloyd, I got my Stomper put together. It was easy once I got the parts together. The only difference I made was instead of making it a permanent part of my work bench, I built a small mobile table that measures 18"x18"x18". Empty bench space always seems to be at a premium in a small shop. Having the Stomper standing up would be a problem and would always seem to be in the wrong place. With the table I can just store it when not in use. Best regards, Richard

Hey there! Great video, I just had one quick question: Around the 740 mark, you mentioned you turn the ring inside and flat on the face. Do you wait 24 hours for the glue to cure between each ring? Or do you have a glue that dries faster to allow you to do this? Thanks so much!! Great product ordered on a few minutes ago!

Nice idea for a tool, but I must say that after forty years of licensed general general contracting, doing mostly upscale work, I would NEVER suggest Harbor Freight tools to a craftsman, any more than I'd advise IKEA to a homeowner.
