Woodturning Macadamia nut wood vase in a Catamaran? Today with some heavy winds and a few squals passing by I decided to continue with a simple little woodturning on a piece of Macadamia nut that really was too small for anything other than maybe a few fineals.
are we crazy? Check us out with the shop build and turn something amazing
You'll have to see how the shop gets setup. where do I get my wood and what do I create with a small lathe and minimal tools.

Albert my friend, that dust could well be the end toy your turnings on that beautiful boat. Take a shallow dish of water and place it under your piece on the lathe, set the speed to very low and wet sand your work. Not only will there be ZERO sanding dust, you will in most cases get a better finish. Not only that! Your wet n dry sandpaper will cut much faster and will last three times longer at least. Why not give it a try, I'd hate to see that dust beat you. I'm sure your lovely wife Fatima will adore you a little more too!
@AlFurtado

Yeah I need to get on the ball and do a few things like a dust extraction including some wet sanding or iliminate the sanding all together. LOL

@@AlFurtado I'm new to turning and like the use of resins to get the most out of badly cracked wood that would otherwise end up on the wood burning stove. I found that wet sanding gives the best results on the resin, as a bonus I also find it works pretty good on the wood too. It lifts the grain and when it dries down there's no muck clogging up the pores of the wood. Hit it with some shine juice as you guys call it and I think you get a much cleaner finish. As already mentioned the dust it stops is a real bonus.

Hey al! You might consider a cbn wheel for sharpening to keep down on dust. That friable wheel is gonna fill that room fast. Awesome to see the idos shop realized.👍
@AlFurtado
@AlFurtado 2 жыл бұрын
First of all thank you for watching and commenting. That is one upgrade I would consider but I don't think I could fit an 8" grinder in the same footprint. Mine is 6" and seeing how much turning I will be doing mine is going to have to make it. I could make a box that would help control the dust quite a bit. Man I need to figure out how to get a sheet of plywood to this darn boat LOL
