Mike great tip with the faceplate ring will definitely use that. That’s ideal for people like me with visual impairment, That was one of the things I was trying to work out the other day when I was looking at a blank how to get the ring on it in the right place. And another great tall review

Mike, very well done review. It looks to me that you covered all the important points quite nicely. The SK114 looks like an excellent chuck but here in the US I already have several Nova G3 chucks. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and please continue to stay healthy.

Great review Mike. The SK114 has great features. I really like the kit coming with the faceplate ring. The worm screw is much better shape than the one I have. Last but not least, your disc to line the ring is simple and brilliant. Thanks Mike.

HI Mike Thank you for the overview.. Strangely enough I was looking through the catalogue only this morning and was looking at the SK 114. But, I currently use the SK100 and set came with C jaws faceplate, threaded mounting plate, worm plate etc and I have purchased a set of Cole jaws and Pen jaws since. I understand they are backward compatible but I cannot see a benefit. Two differences I can see is the Tenon part on my C jaws are dovetailed not with a lip and the square chuck key rather than a cog arrangement on the SK100.. Does this chuck take larger jaws like gripper that the SK100 doesnt?
@MikeWaldt4 жыл бұрын
Hi Buster the SK114 will take any jaws in the Axminster range. I too have the SK 100 with C jaws ... may I respectfully ask you to check the internal gripping, I'm sure you'll find they are not Dovetail.
@busterwest16444 жыл бұрын
@@MikeWaldt do you know since watching your videos checked and your ABSOLUTELY right But you knew that.lol internal is straight with a lip.Only been getting it wrong fir a year. Mike I always listen when you talk and value your opinion( apart from best rugby team in six nations) Full retirement looms and with it a large drop in income. So if I was to upgrade to SK114 I need to do it soon...is it worth it?
@MrPete1x4 жыл бұрын
Mike, do you have to remove the chuck just to change the jaws? More risk to drive spindle threads and a risk of dropping the chuck. Record Power SC4 and jaws for me. Stay safe.
@ROTHGLUT4 жыл бұрын
If you do not install the safty screw, you don't need to. None of the metal lathes I ever worked on did have such a thing...
@MikeWaldt4 жыл бұрын
No you don't Peter if you leave out the safety grub screw at the back. That is provided for newer less experienced turners.

Mike I was wondering if there are different variations of the 114 axminster Chuck. I have searched on my axminster Chuck under number 2 and 4 I don't see the holes for the grub screws. I took out the safety Bolt an extended Chuck jaws even further and I have no grub screws to tighten against the spindle for reverse turning. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you very much for your input.
@MikeWaldt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Leroy, there are two variants, one with the facility and one without. Cheers. Mike

Looks like a good chuck. Not aware of any place in the USA that handles Axminster chucks. I think Oneway and Teknatools seem dominant in the USA.

I looked at the SK114 but unfortunately Axminster do not make it with a 1” x 12 tpi thread to fit my Myford ML8. Purchased the Robert Sorby Patriot Chuck and very pleased with it.

@davidsteele30374 жыл бұрын
I only have the SK114 chuck but all the jaws from the SK100 will fit along with the SK100 mounting jaws. This means you only ever need to buy one chuck.

The Easy Wood chuck is $870 here in Aus
@dougdixon39534 жыл бұрын
But you'll only need one Easy Chuck and not buy 3 or 4 typical chucks, like you'll end up doing becuase you'll get tired of changing them out over and over.

Also, I am lead to believe that when the carriers are level with the chuck body, the jaws form a circle and therefore delivering maximum contact with the work piece........heard this from Axminsterbut not tested it
