I must say when I first saw that wood/pod, I was a little creeped out. Once again, your artistic eye turned something that would normally be overlooked (perhaps even avoided!) into a thing of beauty. Well done, Jack.

I have seen wood turners use banksia pod for years. They usually it end up a hot mess. That coffee cup is awesome and truly unique. Thanks for the videos. 😎

Пришлось искать в интернете, что это за растение, из которого вы делали кофейную кружку. Удивительно красивый цветок из Австралии - банксия. И ваша кружка великолепная. Натуральный орнамент, который получился, действительно похож на зерна кофе. Наверняка напиток из этой кружки будет казаться еще более ароматным.

That's a banksia seed pod from Australia. There are many different species of banksia in Australia. Some have large pods, some small, but all are unique and beautiful. They are one of my favourite native Australian trees and the flowers are gorgeous. You can dry them for dried floral arrangements too. Some species from the Australian east coast to look up - Banksia integrifolia, B. robur, B. serrata, B. aemula and there's even the "blue" Banksia plagiocarpa.

Never saw a piece of wood like that before. It looked like a sort of cone from a conifer. Then to see you turn it so, with the right color epoxy embellishment, well, just perfect. I'd be pleased to have such a drinking vessel. Thanks for sharing - beautiful work.

What kind of wood is that? Was the resin used to fill in the holes and seal the outside? What is that spray you use at the end? I notice you cover all your tools. You always amaze me with the item you come up with. I have a challenge for you. Have you ever thought about turning a set of crochet hooks? I’m not sure what kind of research would go into it but I bet you could do it.

I’m a retired Caterpillar engine tech. We know good tools when we see and feel them. One of my favorite things is a quality tool. I buy with the intent of passing them down.
