Welcome to Jiggsy's Shed, where I bring wood to life through the art of turning! Join me on this exciting journey as I take a piece of Ash wood harvested from a fallen tree back in March 2023 and work my magic on the lathe.
With careful precision, I shape this raw material into a small bowl that's bursting with character. There's a special touch added too... I fill a tiny inclusion with O3adhesives black CA glue, enhancing its unique charm and allure.
Moving on to the interior, I apply @ChestnutProducts black spirit stain, skillfully sanding to leave only the enchanting grain pattern behind. Then, I introduce @CrimsonCustomGuitars Vibrant Stunning Stains, Mango, and Ox Blood, applying them with an airbrush for a burst of vibrant color.
For the exterior, I opt for Chestnut Products cellulose sanding sealer, followed by a treatment of @EasyWoodTools Yorkshire Grit and Microcrystalline wax, ensuring a smooth and glossy finish that's sure to impress.
Turning my attention back to the interior, I apply Chestnut Products cellulose sanding sealer, followed by melamine lacquer and a meticulous polishing with Yorkshire Grit original and microfine. Finally, a coating of Chestnut Products microcrystalline wax adds that perfect touch of elegance.
To personalize my creation, I utilize the @SCULPFUNReal iCube 10w Desktop Laser engraver to add my logo to the bottom of the bowl, sealing it with sanding sealer and microcrystalline wax for a lasting impression.
Come along with me on this artistic journey as I blend skill, technique, and creativity to craft a truly exceptional piece. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell to stay updated on my latest woodworking adventures here at Jiggsy's Shed. Thanks for joining me, and until next time, happy turning!

Thank you! I'm loving these stains and over the weekend I've picked up the orange (blood orange), which should give a nice transition between the red (Ox blood) and yellow(mango). Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@Buckleyswoodturning you mean we don't get more time to ourselves when we retire? 😂😅 Though that does sound like the projects the wife wants me to do currently and I don't have time for.

Thank you. I did enjoy the hollowing with this one. Yeah, it did take a bit more work to get it done than I first intended, but it is great for the learning experience and also the mindfulness... although I like the end result of sanding, I still have to come to enjoy the process of it 😂

I love how wood turners see character in the wood when most would see it as faults ruining the wood. You get child-led parenting. You do wood-led turning! 😉

Hi Just beginning, love your projects, wood stain you are using is same as luthringers use in restoring guitars? I resides in U.S. trying to find similar product. Is yours water based? Thank you. And love your creativity! David
@JiggsysShed

Hi David, thank you so much for watching and commenting. Glad you're liking my projects. Yes, the stain Vibrant Stunning Stains I used is from Crimson Guitars who are luthiers in the UK and it is a water based stain. Not sure what the alternative would be in the US, however, you possibly want to look at dyes. The word stain is a bit deceiving with these as they are actually more a dye than a stain in nature. The black stain that I used was from Chestnut Products and that was spirit based. Hope that helps.
