I’ve made a couple different variations of this in the past. I made some and added some hard Carnuba wax to it and it worked pretty well. The problem I have is getting diatomaceous earth that doesn’t turn dark grey when it’s mixed in. I can’t seem to find any light stuff that won’t stain lighter woods. This is a great video for new turners and wood workers alike. Your a little easier to follow than some of the other videos on here. Hats off to ya sir.

Thanks for the info Andy, I'll try your recipes out once I start getting low on my supplies. Might have to buy my own pan and stirrers though. I don't have a good track record when using the wifes kitchen stuff and am now banned. Getting the simple stuff can prove difficult here in Spain but I'm not willing to change that difficulty for your rain. Used to live on the Lizard way back when and the horizontal stuff is nasty.

Yup. I use the wax beads, mineral oil and diatomaceous earth. Found the wax and earth at the farm store, and oil at the drug store. But I do use the final storage container in the microwave, and use a silicone spatula for best results. No pan to clean up. The rain really sounds good. We are still short of normal, though getting a few more showers now and then.

Very useful video Andy. Easy to make and easy to get the supplies to do it. I made some 4 years ago and the beeswax was the hardest to get. A local craft store had it in blocks. It worked fine...wife did like me using her shrewder on her mixer though LOL...I did not use it. Take care, Gary

Hi Randell... This paste could not be easier to make... Buy beeswax pellets.. much easier than the bars... The diatomaceous earth is very light so don't buy too much... The mineral oil is also useful for other applications..wood wax... chopping boards etc Haha... it does rain here a lot... I'm happy to hear that you have found my eclectic mix of videos useful... Hi Jack... I tried a mix of beeswax, mineral oil, diatomaceous earth, rotten stone and pumice... Thinking that the different coarseness of the 3 materials would work better... Thanks Andy. Have you tried any other abrasives besides the diatomaceous earth (pumice, rotten stone, etc.)? I’ve always been curious as to the difference in abrasive between the 2 different Yorkshire Grit (original and microfiber) products but can’t find it online. If anyone knows I’d appreciate a response. I use primarily the DE but have used rotten stone and just bought some 4F pumice.

Hi Greg... Well it sounds like you know a lot more about it than I do... A while ago I tried a mixture of diatomaceous earth, rotten stone, pumice, mineral oil and beeswax... I was hoping that the different abrasive qualities of the three would give a much better shine... As it happens it was no different from the diatomaceous earth on it's own...
