That's very nice. I'm in process on a Urn for a good friend down the street. Base and bottom four seg's Walnut and then blending in Oak starting with 1/8" band between Walnut and then growing in size 1/4", 1/2" until the top of the Urn is solid Oak. The idea is all symbolism from dark Walnut to the light Oak as it raises up the Urn, sole going to heaven.

Very nice work. A trick that I saw on YT from the @ThePapa1947 when gluing the segments and rings is to let the glue dry a bit and get tacky before you press the pieces together as that prevents all the pieces from sliding around so much and makes the gluing process so much easier.
@TheKlondikeCraftsman Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Would need to experiment with the tacky idea, that could go badly if you wait to long. Would certainly take practice to know when is optimal.

Beautiful piece Lewis. The shapes you turn are always very pleasing to the eye and flow so well. Kudos on being able to keep the padauk from staining the maple. Excellent solution for the lid attachment; it makes sense to glue the lid to the urn. Have seen others use PVC threaded pipe for the attachment; really like your solution better. Glad to see a new video and that you will be making more in the future. I don't know if you follow him or not, but Gary Ascher whose handle is ThePapa1947 does some very interesting work with segments. If you haven't seen him, he's definitely worth a look and follow. Some of his videos show how he resolves the problem of the layers slipping during glue-up

@@TheKlondikeCraftsman I know exactly how it is! I've been on a 6 month stretch of 6/dys a week... It's incredibly difficult to continue to make content. For me anyway. I'm still at the lathe. But just no time to edit. My channel doesn't even compare to yours. That being said. For me, there are very few creators that I look forward to watching content from. You are one of them! Your techniques are amazing. You were able to make that piece look like glass before you finished it. Perfectly round, but looked like facets set deep inside.
