This reminds me of Japanese kintsugi where goals is used to repair broken pottery. The gold repair shows and creates a new work of beauty.

It's part of a concept called wabi-sabi (侘寂). It's about accepting the transient nature of the world and finding the beauty in its imperfections. This channel often embraces wabi-sabi. I think that's why I find it so soothing.
@ExhaustedOwl3 жыл бұрын
@@LuinTathren I agree! It's the 'imperfections' in the timber that make it so lovely with the resin.

The wood grain in that piece was quite spectacular, and filling in the crack with the gold flake added just the right accent to the piece. You never cease to amaze me. Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi. It definitely created a beautiful pattern in the Ash wood. The gold epoxy added just the right accenting to the natural wood color. Great Job, as is your stand of excellence, Andy!!

when I see wood that has patterning from an infection, something in me cringes a bit. It’s a lovely work of art for sure, but I just imagine some alien digging up a human skeleton one day that had, say, osteoporosis, and going, “ooo! what a nice aesthetic this bone pattern has”. Never thought I’d empathize with a dead tree so viscerally, but there you go
