Here's a woodturning tip from the workshop.
Scraping is not a sin! Every now and than it is very practical.
In this video, Ronald Kanne (woodturner in the Netherlands) shows when and why it can be useful to use a Pointy Negative Rake Scraper! The tool he uses in this video is this one:

About Ronald Kanne
Ronald is a wood turner in the Netherlands. He makes commissioned work and his own free work. And every week turns out to be a little too short to get all the work done... He also runs a webshop for other wood turners. It's called: www.dehoutdraaierij.nl. This webshop is in Dutch, English and German. The website that contains his own work is called www.ronaldkanne.nl. You will also find these links in the video.

You gave a very good explanation. I may have to change one of my square scrapers and give it a try. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

I know you prefer the CBN wheel, but you do have a Robert sorby Pro edge . A 60 grit ceramic belt will give you a good bur & you'll have a flat rather than concave bevel that gives the bur better support . I find the bur lasts 25 to 50 percent longer depending on quality of tool steel. Having said that, I do like the idea of that scraper. I have an old 6x12mm parting tool that I recently turned into a negative rake scraper which I like, but I might just go alter it a bit more by curving it a bit 👍.

Propere afwerking. Ik slijp overigens nog steeds op een traditionele slijpmolen, zoals jij hier deed.

I have a half round nrs and a dome nrs. I wonder If I now want to get two pointy scrapers, one nrs and one regular bevel. Can't have too many scrapers.

Have you ever manually created that burr? Used a burnisher to form it? I just got a new Robust spear point NRS and finished up a new handle for it, but have not had time to play with it yet. Love your tips!! Keep them coming, please!

Never done it manually. But you can of course! I don't want to lose too much time in grinding... i want to turn! 😀
