Woodturning with Tim Yoder

Woodturning with Tim Yoder

Күн бұрын

Ron Fleming was one of the founding members of woodturning in the United States. His groundbreaking approach of carving his turned pieces opened the floodgates for artistic expression in the Woodturning world. He was the person who inspired me to start turning. He was my mentor and teacher. In 2017 Ron was awarded the American Association of Woodturners’ POP Merit Award. I had the honor of making this video, documenting Ron’s life, for his award ceremony.

“Cowboys don’t cry and heroes don’t die…” begins the song by Allen Jackson. My condolences to you Tim; your tribute to Ron is a very fitting eulogy as you have encapsulated his life and art. What an amazing talent indeed, Tim.

I had watched so much Bob Ross on KZbin I finally decided to buy his own start-up kits and began painting. I had 0 experience painting before, but when he says it is not difficult and anyone can do it, he is absolutely truthful. I went on and had immediate success. Not just admiration from friends and family, but people were actually contacting me to purchase one of their own. I went on and found another little hobby after discovering a certain channel on KZbin. I fell in love with this new idea and tried my hand with it. I started carving and building my own fishing lures out of blocks of wood. I caught the eyes of more people than I did actual fish at first, but soon got positive results from both below and above the water. I just recently found this channel and I already have that familiar eagerness to give it a try, and I'm pretty sure I'm already walking down that road to do just that. 👍👍

Though I have turned for a number of years I've been remiss to learn the who's who of the Wood turning world. But after seeing your excellent video on Ron, I feel sad about his passing, even though I didn't know of him. Cleary he was an amazing man! And I want to express my condolences to you, Tim, for your loss.

Ron Fleming's art is the expression of God our creator, epression of His creation of us and our creation is God's handiwork through our hands. We are the epression of God's intention for us. We are created to create.
