Our defense playing this good since hutch went out is not being talked about enough. We lost arguably “at the time” the best player in football and we haven’t batted an eye.

We already know we would dominate if Hutch was healthy and playing, but he's not and we're still dominating admittedly in a different way but still dominating none the less, and the fact that they're not talking about it enough shows for a lack of better words the jealousy and hate that is permeating throughout the NFL and NFL community but I like that the Lions organization don't care about all that stuff they don't let that sort of thing change who they are and that is the best organization in the league ,that continues to Dominate all Comers, with or without our starters. How? By having the best talent evaluation and acquisitions front office in all of football and the HANDS DOWN best player development coaching staff and support team of any team in football. I've been a sports journalist most of my adult life, and I've only seen a handful of teams in any pro sport come together like this Lions team has. Folks, you haven't seen anything yet. This team is going to be excellent for a long, long time - nothing is 100% certain in sports, but when the right people come together - good teams are hard to miss if you know what they're made of. I've been saying it for almost two years, but this team's best comp is the Popovich/RC Buford San Antonio Spurs. Popovich is an older generation than Campbell, but both are elite, rare leaders of men who absolutely nobody who has worked with them or played against them has any bad word to say about them. Buford and Holmes both had some obvious can't miss stars - but finding Ginobili and Parker in the late first and 57th pick in Manu's case - dudes who know ball and rarely miss on a guy. Holmes picking St. in the 4th, Kerb in the 3rd, etc. Same. Finally, character. Both teams = no egos, the burning desire to be great and the work ethic and team-first mentality to get there. In year 4, the Lions went from another rebuild with maybe the worst roster in team history (including the 2008 squad) to the model franchise in ALL OF PRO SPORTS. Get used to it, friends. This team is different. And when Dan or Brad or Ben or Aaron or Jared talk about a dude or a position room in the offseason - believe them. They haven't been wrong about anyone since they got through that first season. Jamo = what they said he was. Levi Onwuzurike, who most people probably forgot was still on the team this year - is who they say he is. And that LB room - when Campbell said it was the deepest room on the team... he was right. Rodrigo is a STUD. Starter on 75% of all other teams. And Ben Niemann, holy crap, man. Nowaske doing an extremely admirable job filling in for Barnes... Tim Patrick signing. The next time any of the coaches are wrong or blowing smoke about a player will be the first time. Do not take this for granted, my friends. It's special. It's the opposite of what we saw for decades. Nobody could have written this story any better than it has played out.

Anybody who says the Lions defense isn't good, ball don't lie! Two and a half games, no touchdowns, that's a damn good defense to me. And regarding TA, he was obviously a rookie starting out. He was a flag machine. But over the course of the season, he has settled in and become a force on the field.

Keep it simple: against a good quarterback in the playoffs, Vildor cannot be what we field. If Terrion and Carlton need a month off now to play in the playoffs, I’ll take it even if we lose the 1 seed and division crown.

Here is my quick take: Teams are afraid to get into shoot outs with the offense. Field goals aren't enough. This isn't a team that you're going to beat with 5 field goals. A "Bad" game looks like 23 points. That's a pretty high bar. Teams usually aren't this balanced at this exceptional level in all 3 phases. They also aren't even close to peaking, which is evident with Hutch out and their defenses performance. Once Smith gets settled and that 2 second clock to get rid of the ball starts creeping in the QB's heads again, look for more turnovers. Alim is playing out of this world right now. He's been manhandling a lot of interior lineman all year. Secondary coverage has been outstanding while the line is getting used to navigating without an elite rusher. And how they play against the run. I would expect the points and yardage gaps to start increasing again.

Vildor isn't physically capable of playing CB in the NFL.
@desert_sky_guy3 күн бұрын
It's not a physicality thing - it's a mental thing. He was in position to make some plays, but his awareness isn't great downfield. And jeez, he had a dead-to-rights INT in the NFC title game, a great position and play he made... only to whiff on the catch and have it bounce off his facemask. He's definitely physically capable, but becoming clear he doesn't process very well in the heat of the game.

People crying and saying the Colts screwed up and that's why the Lions won but the lions were screwing up a lot too so it's even on that point. The Lions won cuz they're the better team. The last three games the opponent has scored 0 points in the second half to Detroit 53 points. So in the second half of the last three games the Detroit Lions defense is pitching a shutout

LOL! Did you watch the game? What a horrible comparison. He's still raw, he's only got what like 9 starts in the NFL, and he only got like 10 at Florida... But if you didn't see some of the amazing stuff he did to keep a play alive and avoid sacks, then you are missing the boat. Off the top of my head, he's the first guy I've seen Branch look bad while trying to tackle. Levi is a beast at 315 lbs, and had Richardson entirely wrapped up AND a huge mitt on his right hand trying to force the fumble - and Richardson still got the throw off and avoided a killer sack or safety. The deep throws that he hit on were gorgeous. Raw, yes - but he's a once in a generation athlete at QB who is already a million times better NFL QB than Tebow.

The defense against the Colts was an illusion. The Colts made so many mistakes on offense it made Detroit's defensive stats look good. If they play like that against a disciplined team they will start losing. The colts should have scored 27 points. That's how often they beat Detroit's defense but simply dropped the ball, missed the open receivers, or committed a costly penalty after a big play.
@Baalzz3023 күн бұрын
If they didn't execute the play, they didn't really beat the defense on the play.
@brianfitat602 күн бұрын
Missed throws from a (supposedly) accurate QB and penalties on some big plays were most likely because of the defense. You make it sound like the D was non existent and just got lucky that the officials helped them out or Richardson missed throws.

I swear some people just talk to be talking. 🙄🤦🏽♀️

Question Which team is ranked FIRST in the entire NFL in DEFENSE ?..?? Also ranked 3rd in Offense ??? ( 409.8 to 2nd Detroit 409.9.)) Eagles are a BETTER all around team...
@brandonbaty22913 күн бұрын
Says who? The Lions are 2nd in points allowed. The Eagles are 6th. The Lions have TWO 1st team all pro safeties, one of which leads the league in INTs while the other is a THUMPER who only trails him in INTs by 2. EVERY team the Lions play in the last 2 years has abandoned the run altogether. The Lions have scored 64 MORE points than the Eagles. Have the best o-line in the league hands down. Have the best running back duo in the league (both of which will finish with 1k - 1.5k yards AND double digit TDs) possibly EVER. They have stars at EVERY position. There is not a weak spot on the team. This ALL while missing 8-9 starting defensive players including the runaway DPOY due to injury. Oh, AND the Lions have INFINITELY better coaches/coordinators. What dream land do you live in saying the Eagles are better?? You are high as hell. The Eagles are great. They are similar to the Lions in make up, but lack the team chemistry and leadership that Detroit has. They are NOT better than the Lions. Period.
