This looks incredible, but I'm wondering if it would be possible to first saw off some of that wood to leave usable offcuts instead of just turning everything that's not the end product into chips 🤔

I've seen that done with large wooden bowls, where they use a curved tool that cuts out the inside, then use the cutout for a second bowl. Hard to imagine how this could be done with this huge piece of expensive looking wood, but it does seem like a lot of waste. I guess the explanation is "not feasible "

@@renatocanetti Way too dense to be redwood. Pretty sure it is padauk - which also is native to where is guess to turner is from.

@@renatocanetti I hope not, that is an endangered species. I dont think it is Padauk either as that is African and the turner here looks most likely Vietnamese (also a PG Bank calendar on the wall which is a Vietnamese bank). Likely Vietnamese Mahogany or possibly Vietnamese Redwood (Dalbergia tonkinensis also endangered and sales of it are illegal).

Redwood is redwood. The more famous redwood is probably the Sequoia of California, but there is also another, smaller species of redwood in California and Oregon.
