Carving is one of those things that I have on my list of things to do but have not actually done yet, I was however given a cheap set of carving chisels some years ago in readiness, interesting to see you use a vinyl cutter for you outlines, it was at this point when you said about reviewing the cutter that I realised that I had missed a couple of your videos, not sure how as it should ring the bell but anyway I am going to go back and watch those 🤷👍👍👍👌👌👌🇦🇺

Enjoyed this so much as you demonstrate so well the processes and the combination of high tech and hand tools. Thank you again for sharing so many different types of work.

I would too. I don't if they have gotten around to hanging it up yet. I'll have to check next time I'm out that way.

That came out terrific!! I always assumed my lack of artistic ability meant I couldn’t do things with relief carvings and the like. This method is eye opening!! I think I could use these methods with decent results. Thanks for the continued excellent content!
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think this level of carving really comes down to knowing a few different techniques that aren't hard to master. And then just repeating the cuts over and over and over again.

Wicked nice looking sign! I love the texture and pattern made by a decent size gouge. Your carving projects are some of my favorite, as that is a skill I have yet to develop. IMO there is nothing better than a hand carved solid wood sign. Well done 👊. Thanks for sharing ✌️

Thanks! Happy to hear you like these carving videos. I do as well, but they are usually far from my more popular video's.

Great results there Kate! Reminds me of when I did sandblasting to wood. They make a thicker medium for the vinyl cutter, and just blast it. Also did it on glass. Projector works ok, as you said, the alignment, distortion and having space to project isn't always doable. I'm sure someone will suggest using a CNC, that would allow for duplication of sides, but not always look hand chiseled. 👍
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks2 жыл бұрын
I actually suggest to all my customers that want signs or text like this carved to find a shop with a CNC because it is way more cost effective then having someone like myself carve it. But, she said she wanted it done by hand and I wasn't going to argue hahaha.

Here in Louisiana we have cypress everywhere. I used to love cutting cypress knees to carve.
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks2 жыл бұрын
I really like cypress. Don't you guys have to old growth cypress that they pull out of swamps and sell for a ton of money?
@cabman862 жыл бұрын
@@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks Oh yeah. There are certain companies that are allowed to do this though. It's the state tree and cutting one down is a felony crime. Even the Spanish moss that grows on them are illegal to harvest here.

I love this video!! Have you thought of doing a step by step (slower pace) video on how to use a rotary carving tool? That would be really cool to watch.
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks2 жыл бұрын
I have but honestly, it’s a very slow process. So in order to show it properly in video form would translate to a long long video.

Very nice work, the chisel pattern makes it all worthwhile doing by hand (cnc couldn't deliver that kind of character). BTW, did you know you can transfer pattern with a laser printer printout? Face the print side onto wood surface, then rub kerosene on the print, the ink powder will come right off the paper.
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks2 жыл бұрын
Did not know that. That will come in handy for smaller stuff for sure.

How many labor hours did this project take? Seems very laborious.

Idk I charge by project not by hours so I don’t keep track of hours. I’m also working on multiple things at once which can be hard to gauge time as well.

One of the main reasons I agreed to review that vinyl cutter is I knew I had this carving coming up, and I was dreading the pattern transfer. Worked like a charm.
