I was trying to think of a way to do this, and just kept coming up short. I was in my mind, using pipe bar clamps, and there wasn't a good way of adjusting the pipe length. I also had over complicated the whole affair. I thought about it on and off for months. Along comes Sergio with the simplest of solutions and a vice that is useful. I give you AAA+++ for thinking outside the box. Good job. It was so easy to do, no time at all. The only thing I have left to do is go to the store tomorrow and get some kind of angle bolt, or make something that will work, but that is easy. GREAT JOB!

Ok Sergio, so simple, so fast. It took about a half hour to an hour. The only thing I had to change was the L bracket to an eye bolt as I couldn't find a bolt pre bent or one I could bend where I live. I put an eye bolt on each side of the clamp and put a hitch pin in to hold the clamp. (hitch pin, think of a strong bobby pin). I'm up and running now. Thanks again.

Hello Sergio, good job, however it could be easier with just the square hooks, a pair of standard clamps and any piece of fairly thick wood. On my workbench I have a higher apron with dogholes in which I use doghole clamps or modified F-clamps and a piece of scrap wood.
@watcherdude13306 жыл бұрын

I used 3/4" threaded rod from Lowe's for my vise. I bought a two-foot length of the rod and all of the nuts and washers needed for $14. I used scrap 2x6 for the faces, and just bored holes for the rod to pass through. Starting from the back, the hardware layout for each screw was (nut)(washer)(fixed jaw)(recessed nut) -- opening - (movable jaw)(washer)(nut). I used a mallet and chisel to cut the recessed nut holes - didn't take that long. I cut and rounded/smoothed two knob-shaped handles and recessed the front nuts into those. I spent a little extra and put leather on the jaw faces. The leather actually cost about twice what the hardware did, so it wound up being a $45 vise. But it's got 20 inches or so of clear opening and it clamps like a champ as long as the piece reaches both above and below the level of the rods.
