What a great ten minutes of brilliant, mocking answers to stupid, serious questions to ask a great comedian.

I would say the interviewer is definitely Peter Cook. He's doing an excellent job of asking those bland types of questions TV interviewers routinely trotted out at the time, in exactly the right tone of voice (except when he cracks up - the footage is obviously unedited stock). Cook did a lot of this on 'Not only but also...' Woody is brilliantly inventive. By far the most hilarious I've seen of him in interview. Overall some of the funniest and most remarkable comedy footage. Thanks for posting

Mel Brooks once said, "we always become what we mock" or something close to that. Woody Allen here may have been fooling around when 'describing' 'Bananas', but he would literally say the same things in all seriousness about his later movies.

Right around "Marvin Hamlisch" Woody starts to lose it, but regains his composure. Is that Peter Cook interviewing him? Voice sounds very familiar.
@news4usunshine10 жыл бұрын
As usual, most of the people commenting on this video are completely clueless. This is a comedy sketch, not an actual interview. The questions are scripted, and it's likely that Woody wrote all of them.

Evidently, Woody's whimsical sarcasm was influenced by various artists of his period such as John Lennon, Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol, not to mention his comedy peers: Bob Hope, Groucho and George Carlin. He is not one to suffer fools or foolish questions lightly.
