This was one of Woody’s strongest bands. Giants in every section and a dynamite rhythm section. A great memory. I saw this band in person at least twice.
As a jazz major at Indiana University, I had the great privilege several years ago to jam with Bruce Johnstone at his home in Erie, PA. To be world renowned, he is a very nice and humble man.

25-year-old Allen Vizzutti playing lead trumpet all night (including double A's and G#'s on 'Corazon' and 'La Fiesta') AND then playing 'Firedance' 40 minutes in on a 1-hour set. CHOPS!

The performance of Pavane (Faure/Anderson) 15:00 is better than the album version (I forget which album). As a highschool trombone player, I heard Woody live three times at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, 1976-78. Gary Anderson came and sat at our table on one of the breaks.
