I had one that would hammer on my aluminum gutters like that every morning. As soon as I opened the door he would fly over to a nearby tree and look at me coyly.

Funny story, we had a few woody woodpeckers peck the power poles and then there were a few less woody woodpeckers and we had to call the power company to fix woody woodpecker's blunder
