idk if it's respect towards the car. They just destroy them because they are cheap junk cars that no one cares about, and they're so old they have no yearly inspection anymore. Just pure shit boxes that you destroy as much as you want and there are no consequences since the inspection won't say anything about it.

I see now that most of these cars are in a good and decent condition. Those cars are what the swedes are supportive of. Big old classics that are tended for and treated like someone's child. The super slammed ones are part of the new generation of "raggare" who have no respect for the cars and their interests arent in driving cars, it's in drinking cheap beer while being obnoxious blasting shitty music.

Fun video - sort of like American classic/custom cruise nights during warm months. U.S. teens in the 60s listened to British bands on the radio while cruising after school in sharp looking, fast Chevy Impalas and Pontiac GTO's. It was the best of both worlds. As an American musician who is also a 50s-60s era U.S. car afficionado, I should comment that no U.S. teen in the 60's ever bought, or cared to be seen in, a 4 door car. Four door cars were Mom and Dad's stodgy old family sedans. The young generation bought 2 door "coupes" for that fast, stylish look. Thanks for the nifty video.

Love the video and the "outside looking in" perspektive. Very well made. As a native swede who grew up during the late sixties thru seventies i can remember seeing and in the 80´s participating in this kind of street life taking place every friday and saturday night (and a bit on wednesdays too at least in the summer). This kind of fun started to fade a bit with the 90´s financial crisis and council politicians across the land had since around 1980 been doing what they could to restrain this behaviour by blocking off streets from automotive traffic. Around the towns in my area it´s by now down to a few nights every summer due to sky rocketing fuel prices and then mostly organized and under surveillance from cops although not on horseback. The surviving old guys who where part-taking when it all started back around 1960 has told me that it was a whole different game back then, the stories they could tell makes this look like "live-re-enacting"...X-D Anyway, always good to see people having a good time as long as nobody gets hurt. Btw most classic yankee cars are well kept ,and most owners are very serious about that even though many likes to ride shotgun with a beer in hand on nights like these, i´d say the beat-up clunkers are less than five percent. And back in the day four-doors wasn´t widely accepted by anyone, those where mainly used-up taxicabs or laid-off staff cars from local industries that ran their final years as just these beat-up "raggare" cars. Most of those are long since rusted out and gone so today even those are later-day imports from the USA but many two-doors still around where imported during the 70´s oil crisis years when they dropped in value, lucky for us.

In Swedish those trashed cars are usually called "Pilsnerbil". They're trash on the outside but get a look underneath the hood and underneath the car and it's usually cleaner than a laboratory. The guys driving them and riding in them may look like they have the IQ equivalent to a seagull but they know exactly what they'r doing when it comes to cars and mechanics.

yeah those raggare dudes might be working in the bank on monday!

@@Taxan1972 I said the guys driving them LOOK like they have low IQ. I didn't say they actually do. And no, I don't work in an office. My office has 24 wheels, is 24 meters long and, when fully loaded, weighs 64 tons.

I have a restored GTO for 2 decades now and I always envy the guys with the raggare cars , because you don't have to worry about the occasional scratch or dent . If I scratch my car it's a € 1000,- minimal repair and anger stress for a week , they scratch theirs and laugh it of. No more mint cars for me , they're more trouble/stress then they're worth. Greetz from The Netherlands.

Cars ate made to be driven,used,enjoyed. Drive it's a holy endeavour. Enjoy your car If you want to keep it mint. Once a year or two years, give it attention to details As long as the hearth and mechanic works,you'll be fine n.n

I just came back from my vacation in Sweden yesterday. I spent my time in a rural area and was totally caught by surprise when I saw (actually I heard it before I saw it) one these totally wrecked cars slowly cruising the streets (and scratching it) with deafening music. It was quite an experience! 😄 Then I saw another one. And another one. And many more. So I googled what this was all about and this is how I found your video.

I know that from the U.K. perspective, U.S. cars are huge. Growing up, the first car my parents had was a '61 Chevy Bel Air and my dad was a detective and drove a '64 Plymouth Belvedere. Its great to see them having so much fun with our old cars.

If you are unsure what "Raggare" means it basically means "Pick up artists" but in old swedish speak. Raggar culture was all about picking up girls and being as manly as possible back in the day and ofcourse that meant taking care of your car ;) The word "Ragga" means to peacock girls, basically like the modern ebonic word "Rizzing". Gliders and Raggare are the north and southpole of Swedish car Culture. The show room cars and the ones that you barely can call transportation. What they all have in common is most of them are maintaining their car up to regulations (breaks, exhaust, lights) and imho the driver is always sober. For that someone that doesnt get to drink gets the keys to the car, so everyone is winning. :) that unmarked jug at 11:06 that aint water...

Kind of cool that they can have open containers (alcohol) in the cars. Driver not drinking of course.
@NordVast9 ай бұрын
That's one thing that is crazy to me as a Swede, why you can't do that in most parts of the US. If the driver don't drink, what's the problem? We have this once a year in my city here in Sweden and it's a city ordinance that you can't drink in public in the middle of the city. But during this day the police enforce it. They don't write tickets for doing stuff you usually would get a ticket for. Like if you are riding on the roof of a car, they would just tell you to get down. And if you would refuse, then you would probably get a fine.
