So the joke is all historical figures know how to fight. But, Matthew Perry was actually pretty badass. He was an extremely accomplished Navy Commodore with several navel victories under his belt. Much of this was to upstage his brother who was also an accomplished navel officer. Perry was also part of joint a effort against the slave trade and would attack ships transporting slaves. He'd free the slaves and bring them back to Africa. A funny story of his time trying to open Japan. He held a banquet on his ship for several Japanese delegates. During the banquet a Japanese man, half drunk, put his arm around Perry's neck and said "America, Japan, same heart." One of Perry's men came over stunned and asked "You just let him do that?" Perry, who at this point in time was frustrated with Japan's reluctance to agree to all terms of the deal to open stated "If they'd just agree to this deal, I'd let him kiss me." Matthew Perry was a pretty interesting figure.

So, this is a game that has: Samurais, a main co-protagonist (and probably a Vergil? I imagine?), an unarmed moveset, parry mechanics, a Nero-style Snatch move, duels, a stance system... The only way this could be more of a Woolie game is if next episode starts with a short-haired punch girl flying in on a jetpack to deliver a personal mech.

For anyone still early in this game, there is a quality of life feature that lets you auto pick-up items. Saves so much needless tapping after killing enemies and it'll pick stuff up even while in combat without interrupting said combat. Makes it easier when foraging during exploration since you can just get vaguely close to it to pick it up. The range is very generous.

If you hold down R1 and R3 outside of combat, you'll do a cool samurai blood swiping and re sheathing animation.

Only if you do it right after an attack. Don't do it outside of a fight, because you get some stamina back if you do it during a fight.

@@josh-oo You're both talking about two different things: Blade Flash and cleaning your weapon, the former is performed after an attack (as you say), while the latter can be performed at _anytime,_ not after an attack, as long as your weapon is stained, by holding R1 _and_ R3 at the same time. You'll know you've done it correctly as the animation is _way_ longer than a blade flash.

@@Frank_Costanzas_Lawyer We're both talking about the same thing. Cleaning your blade is a Blade Flash. It empties the blood gauge whether you're in combat or not.

If this is just built off the Nioh engine then enemies with helmets can't be headshot because their helmet will take the hit. These are the ones who slump over but don't take damage. There's probably a stronger firearm category that will circumvent this though.

I liked that seamless switch feature but then they make you decide between the two characters? Makes me wonder if you will later get another partner or if it is just a gimmick for like five minutes.

During tons of the missions throughout the game you can have up to two of the many allies you've made throughout your adventure come with and wreck shit. You can switch between them at any time just like that during those missions.
