I remember reading an article about the health thing in fighting games. Apparently modern fighting games intentionally make the last 10-20% health worth MORE than the rest. Everyone's assumption is that the entire bar is of equal value, when in reality the earlier parts are 1 point represented as health while the final part are 10 or 20 points worth of health in the same visual space of meter. The devs said they did this to add drama to games, and excitement and fun is what they're going for with this approach. I can't say I disagree.

And as if that wasn't enough, in Guilty Gear specifically, characters have something like a willpower attribute that increases their defence the lower their HP gets. Also, different characters have different amounts of HP.

Great video, but Brice's tip about not bursting at the end of combos is kinda wrong. If you want to burst, you'd think doing it at the start is best, to avoid all of the obvious damage from the combo you're about to get hit with. But it's also pretty risky to do there since an opponent has the most options at the start of a combo, and if you get hit with a giant counterhit, they can certainly read your burst. Bursting at the end of combos is the less risky way to do it, since almost and move that lets you get a knockdown (what most players are going for) in the air or on the ground is a very "final" part of a combo, meaning they have no choice but to accept your burst there, preventing you from getting knocked down, and getting read so you don't get that third of your busrt gauge back.

Guilty Gear is a game we like to keep coming back to because it's so mechanically rich and stylish. There's so many layers. It never feels like you're seeing the same match twice and it's always sick. I mean look at that OctoPimp rematch. Last time was like watching OctoPimp have breakfast. This time was dessert. Completely different.

I started playing Rev 2 again last week after putting down for at least several months, and even though the game is technically stale at this point, it's still pretty fun to play and there's always new shit to learn whether it be a match up or what not. Axl Low is still my boy

@@powerup931 I wish I had time to put into it. I'm not even good with my main, Potemkin. I like playing Jack-O too though and had some success with her last time I played. Her commands are simple so I get to focus more on fundamentals and setting up houses than execution. It's part of why I'm looking forward to Granblue Fantasy Versus so much.

Dizzy should be 10 by this point. First game was set in 2180 (She 3 at this point) , and Xrd is set in 2187 so she is 10. Currently says on the wiki that sin is 5+ years. (This didn't take too long to figure out.) Also love seeing you improve your Baiken man!

@@synysterpain it's the artstyle. DBFZ has to stay true to the way Dragon Ball looks and moves, with Xrd they can go all out with details and animations. and also (unbelievably) the engine is just ue4

If I got into it when Xrd came out, it would've been better. Its the nature of fighting games.

@@jonahgetz8770 Play with Stylish mode or whatever first, and learn footsies first. Let the game autocombo for you until you get a feel for a character's movements and what your normals are. Then just keep at it and learn some bnb combos and you'll be a good step above others.

They've been working their way through a couple at a time. With how much effort Team Red put into bringing characters over to 3d (there's a whole GDC presentation on how they did it that's fascinating if you're into that kind of stuff) I perfectly understand the reduced roster. While I'd prefer bringing back more old characters to all the new characters, I can't get too salty since Rev2 brought back mah girl Baiken.

I came here after the Collaboration event of a Gacha game called Epic Seven, and I would say Baiken is really an amazing character. The characters they released in the game are: Sol Badguy (very cool guy), Baiken (very awesome chick), and Dizzy (lovely, adorable character). All of them have very good animations, I wish I-No was there too, well she is but not as a playable character. Edit: During the event the BGM of Guilty Gear is on, and they killed it. Watching the animation of every character while playing the BGM of GG hypes the game even more.
