Thank you so much for this information. I couldn't find any instructions in the booklet that came with my new shredder.

Hi Michael, I liked your video but I'm just concerned if the oil starts to accumulate in the bottom of the basket and make a mess?

Good Morning Dan. I thought about the same thing as I got my first paper shredder. First of all, don’t drench your paper shredder in oil. Just squeeze the oil bottle a little bit. Just use a “line” of oil arose the entire slot. This amount should be easily absorbed by the cutting mechanism. But for the case that oil is dripping out of the cutting mechanism, I always leave on the bottom of the bin some paper shreds, about half an inch high, in order to absorb any oil dripping out of the cutting mechanism. That worked well for me, the bottom of my paper shredder is still very clean. Have a great weekend 😀👍

My volume is pretty high at the office. I should do once a day actually, we had to blow out my medium volume shredder with a compressor. I can’t remember the brand at the moment.

@@Woopnik I ended up Googling it and I found out that most of those Shredder oils are basically mineral oil so I had a bottle of Johnson baby oil you just squirt it across an eight and a half by 11 sheet of paper and feed the sheet of oily paper through the paper shredder works like magic it's so much nicer now sorry about your husband I hope your life is well

Great video though I have to admit the plastic peel still being on the logo for your shredder bugged me for the entire video lol

I clicked on this video because it was in the top 3 results for how to clean a cross cut shredder. Im going to try this instead and kill two birds with one stone. Thank you for being positive.

Just use canola oil or vegetable oil, don't waste your money.
@Woopnik3 жыл бұрын
You should use manufacturer-approved oil. Different shredders will use different oils and will usually sell the oil where you purchased your shredder. If you are using an old and/or out of warranty paper shredder, you can use canola oil as a substitute rather than purchasing manufacture approved oil. Because the oil I am showing in the video is dirt cheap, about $7 per bottle, I don’t see a financial advantage not to use manufacturer approved oil. The bottle of oil shown lasted me for over 4 years and it is still not empty.

@@Woopnik You make good points regarding oil usage. I bought the manufacturer's recommendation. Since my unit will be out of warranty when I'll need to buy more, I'll get the canola oil then. Thanks again for your video.

You'll find that using vegetable oil with start to gunk up the blades. I guess people need to weigh out which is cheaper, buying the proper oil for $6 - $7.00 or having to buy a new shredder for $30 - $60. Which would be the bigger waste?
