I'm the daughter of pilots who never got into them. But JustPlanes, your videos make me get it. Flying out of St Thomas back in the 90s used that approach Mike. Fly non stop out of ATL but had to land at St Croix to refuel before ATL. Felt like catapulting a slingshot over the mountain then breaking til landing. Just a hop 35 mi or so

St. Maarten's Princess Juliana airport has a short runway so pilots flying large airplanes, like the Boeing747, will have to take special procedures, that are not usually taken for airports with longer runways. In most cases, prior to take-offs, they set the parking brakes, increase throttles, and once the engines reach the recommended RPMs, the parking brakes are released, and begin the roll for take-off, and they do the "rotate" procedure (nose up) a short distance down the runway.
