Its simple Susan Ji when you eat with hands segregate fingers to three operating groups, pinky and thumb are independent and rest of the three fingers in the middle would normally operate as one flat finger avoiding gaps between them. The pinky would join the center three to add surface area to hold food when you scoop it and thumb is usually the pusher. Decent eating with hands is when food never touches your palms. Hope this helps.
