This isn't just great writing, this is great visuals too. 0:22 when she says "I'm still just Becky Botsford", she flies. And Violet looks at the empty space beneath her. Amazing juxtaposition of Becky trying to sound normal but doing something that is the complete opposite of that. Incredible.

Well, I see that, but also, I want to say that Becky flying as she says "I'm still Becky Botsford" was her way of showing she was the same girl that Violet was friends with, but also, she just happens to have superpowers, basically hammering the point she's making home with actions as well as words. But as you pointed out, Violet doesn't see it that way. The problem being that the superpowers was the side that Becky hid from her, and thus hammering home how Violet feels lied to and unsure of who the real "Becky" is or even if she ever "was".

Wow i- I never would've imagined such great drama coming out of a children's show like Wordgirl! The whole conflict between these two is written so well and pretty realistic with it's lasting consequences of Becky revealing her secret. MAD respect to the crew for treating kids with respect and not talking down to them. We need more children's shows with a balance of educational value and nuanced wit and story like Wordgirl did.

This is what I like about shows such as Arthur and Bluey. Such shows never dumb themselves down like kids are complete idiots (because kids really are a lot smarter than they're given credit for); for example, Arthur tackles some serious topics like cancer and same-sex couples and Bluey has many emotional moments as well as situation that kids and adults alike can relate to.

This honestly hits hard... I've lost a friend before, she was one of my best friends. We met back in elementary underneath a big ole tree we called Steve, and we hit it off real well. Her and I became best friends ever since, we did these little mystery like scenarios where we find out which one of our classmates was responsible for something involved with the mystery. It was pretend of course, but a lot of fun. We used to be in band together one year, and I remember we tried to learn how to play our instruments (lol), and despite the problems we both had, her and I remained friends for a while. But then, starting in 8th grade, she began to question why we are friends, and I tried to answer in the best way I knew how and she said again, "No, why are we friends?" And at first, I didn't think none of it, cause I'm sure it wasn't gonna affect anything since she was questioning (maybe, right?). In our freshmen year of high school, we were still friends, though we began to become... distant? I'm not sure if it's the word I'm looking for, but I think so. Anyway, me and her were involved in this musical for our first year, The Little Mermaid, and it was so fun! I honestly wish I could relive it, the costumes, the singing, the dancing, everything about it was magical and memorable! After, well it was either the first or second performance, I was so proud of us that I wanted to give her a hug so I opened my arms open, and she said, "NO" And this struck my heart majorly, and I was so confused and asked why. She said and I quote (accurately as I can) "Well maybe because we aren't friends anymore" Let me tell you, my whole heart pretty sure got ripped out and shattered on the ground as if it was glass into a million pieces. That day... I just couldn't believe it, because never in my life had I think I'd lose a friend, a very good one, despite us being different from each other. I had hurt for quite a while, and I wanted to know why this had to happen and what I did wrong. Sometimes I still think that, but my other friend told me that the reason she didn't want to be my friend anymore was that since I was girly and worried so much about my appearance (back then I wanted to belong, I wasn't necessarily popular or had a whole lot of friends) and she was kind of uncomfortable about it, which I can understand, to a certain extent. However, I told my friend this (the one I am still friends with, not my other former friend), "Honestly, if she doesn't want to be my friend because she couldn't accept me for who I am, then her loss, I'm sorry" And I know that I had my problems, but that doesn't mean someone should stop being your friend because of who you are (or were, I changed quite a bit since then). Friends work out their differences and make each other better, they lift each other up, embrace each other for who they are as a person, etc...etc...the list goes on that I can't list. They just don't leave each other like that...ever The feeling of being loyal to a friend and then they ditch you because they didn't accept you for you hurts like hell. Even though it's been 4 years since then (we're talking 2018 when this happened), it still is like a sharp blade piercing the heart, and sometimes I wish I could go back in time and try to fix things, but hey, I'm not the god of time.... Though looking back, it was probably for the best, we were real different anyway, hardly any similarities, plus some friendships last and some drift apart, it's a part of life. With good times come bad times, and there's nothing we can really do about it.

Not to be mean or anything, but your friends sound like a real heal in freshman year, like she purposely became distant towards you for practically no reason and then yelled suddenly she doesn't want to be friends now? Like I get that you're "grown up"because you have different motives and you have different themes of your teenage lives but you could at least be reasonable about it you know?.

@@kainecalderone9930 Honestly I have no idea why I made her feel uncomfortable, even if she told me the reason, I still don't get it. I'm graduated anyway, so it's not like I could repair it, even if I wanted to. I think it was mainly her issues with me making her uncomfortable. But anyway, maybe in the near future we'll see each other again, but right now I don't see it happening. What's done is done, and there's nothing I can do about it now. This other time (I became friends with them again not very long after this happened), a friend of mine didn't want to be my friend anymore since they were jealous of the bond I have with their former companion/lover, and also me because they saw me as perfect, when truth be told, I told them I am far from it, I have my flaws. When I told them this, they told me despite what I think, I am. I said former companion/lover since they aren't with them anymore. But anyway, when we fought, it was constant, and my best friend who was with them at the time practically couldn't take it anymore and attempted many suicide attempts. I was beyond shocked and scared, because I thought I was going to lose one of my dearest and closest friends, they mean the world to me if I'm being honest. I'm just glad they held on and didn't end it all, though that day when they told me about being suicidal was a dark and scary day and I still remember it like it was yesterday. I never and I mean NEVER had a friend who was suicidal, so when they told me, I didn't know how to react. Them telling me this was as scary as a possible shooting that almost happened at my school.

What I like about this, is this is the reality. Sure, we can imagine how cool it would be to be friends with Captain America or Superman. But the reality is, if we learned our best friend was this larger than life super hero, we'd would probably feel inadequate. How could you ever just go back to having fun with someone, when you've learned they're so much more than you'll ever be, at least from your point of view. That Violet was able to go back and see Becky as, well, Becky, that's inspiring as hell
@RyanTheDark

I had to be the "Violet" of the situation. My friend who was like a little sister was going behind my back and was sparking drama and instigating things and causing more pain in my life. I trusted her with almost everything but she had abused my trust. It hurt but after days of thinking I had no other choice. I kept her around because I knew her (and her sister albeit we never been that close) since we were toddlers. It hurts more than my previous breakups with my exes, that much is for sure.

I remember seeing this at 9 and I thought nothing of it, but seeing it now has me realize how painful stuff like this can in real life. Like, I've been there for my bsf when I thought she was going to get hurt, and I would most definitely feel betrayed and confused if she were to lie to me for such a long time...this scene might be one of the very few scenes in kid shows that a lot of people can actually relate to, and I especially how this show has a lot of those moments. But seriousness aside how could Violet NOT figure it out, the only thing Becky is wearing to hide herself is a LITERAL helmet- 💀

Not to look super deep into this, even though that's what I'm gonna do anyways, I think what really worked against Becky in her attempt to remain freinds with Violet was that while saying she was just the same old Becky, she flew; only reinforcing Violets view of Becky in that she was much more than who she thought she knew as her best friend. Word girl is this larger than life person and to a human as "simple" as Violet that is probably overwhelming.
@natperXD
@natperXD 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I kinda agree but not. It doesn't help Becky that's she flew since it can be viewed as her looking down at her and that Violet doesn't know Becky anymore or if she can trust her again. At the same time, Becky flying in attempts to remain friends could be that she wanted to show her that while she has these fancy powers, she's still the same Becky.

Loving word girl as a kid, I always watched the show and was thought to believe that they would always be friends, even if word girl was revealed. And this scene brought me to tears because of the fact that they aren't friends anymore, and now they are just strangers. I never thought the show would get so deep, emotional, and, how do I say this, depressed. I thinks its safe to say that this is just part of the show, and it might be the last...

Becky/Word Girl falling to her knees like she's hurting inside at 0:50 never fails to break me, like, the overbearing guilt of deceiving your best friend about your secret identity only for them to turn away from you must feel awful. Although she did have a good reason, like, we don't want all her villains showing up at her door 24/7, now do we? Anywho, while Violet _does_ have a right to feel upset, she should know that not ALL secrets are to be spilled, Becky's allowed to have a personal life. And Violet's not the first one to find out that her best friend is Word Girl; take Scoops for example, he knows the truth, and now Becky's perfectly fine with transforming in front of him. I guess since he's known for a while, he's come to terms with it overtime, but Violet, however, had to think it over, and in the end chose to accept Becky. Neither Becky nor Violet are perfect, and that's what makes a good friendship, but c'mon, _maybe_ Violet should learn to not be so dismissive now that Becky's learned not to be secretive???

I was 9 when I watched this show in 2009-2010, sadly here in Latin America Discovery Kids was the channel that aired Word Girl: a pre-school children channel. This obviously wasn't a TV programm for kids under 7, so some parents complained to the channel due to "violence scenes" and other inappropiate content, which for me were ridiculous arguments. Because of this, only the first two seasons were aired and the show was cancelled shortly after. Many years later I watched Word Girl again (in English, I speak Spanish natively), and realized that it had eight seasons which I had lost. And then I found this episode, the last. I didn't spect to feel so emotional in a children tv show. Maybe this was aimed to them, but it's a show that everyone can enjoy: it's funny, educational and sometimes deep. I'm 22 and I laugh and learn like when I was 9. Even my parents liked Word Girl, 13 years later dad still remembers some quotes of the show. Unfortunately, here most of audience didn't appreciate it how deserved, and was almost forgotten. In fact, I can only find two episodes with the original Spanish dub that I watched in 2009, both from the first season.
