I can't believe there's still someone doing reactionfor this show. I literally am searching for the reactions hopelessly though 🤣 Thank you so much!

I actually binge-reacted and just have yet to edit and post the rest.... so I've been in the same boat wishing there were more reactions to it too!! I wish I hadn't missed the train when this show came out or even when it first came to Netflix but, better late than never :)

@@amandas2639 oh don’t worry :), I’ve seen The Untamed! I am fully down the danmei rabbit hole. I do wish I had done reactions to it. But I might do reaction videos to the spinoff movies, I haven’t seen those yet!

This little show has SO much heart. They had to work with a shoestring budget that kept getting cut (Covid, sponsors dropping out). Most of the original cast had to dip after being on hiatus due to Covid, including the original leads. I think the actress who plays Gu Xiang was one of the only ones who hung on, because she wanted the part so much. They had to cut about 10 episodes off the end because they literally just ran out of money near the end of filming, so they had to cram everything in as best they could. Evidently, a lot of people on Chinese social media were clowning on the show before it aired, saying it'd be a bust -- and then it turned into a smash hit as soon as it premiered, and I really think it's all down to how much you can tell the cast truly believed in the project. It's also wild to me trying to imagine the cast being different, especially our main two guys here. They play off each other so well. It'd be a shame to have lost that!

Oh god, I know. I’m so far down the rabbit hole with this show, I’ve read so much about it now. Correct me if I’m wrong but I read the total budget was 50 million RMB, and that’s with the nuts sponsorship, and that’s less than $7 million USD…. I had to look up TV show budgets to give myself a reference. I remember that ONE episode of game of thrones in season 1 was $6 million 😅 the things they achieved with the tiniest speck of money, I cannot understand.

Re: cultivation - this is a wuxia drama, a different genre from The Untamed (which is xianxia). The fundamental difference is that wuxia is much more focused on martial arts, though it can and often does have fantasy elements, and xianxia is more magic based. Also, if you do read Lord Seventh, I recommend not doing it until after you finish the series because WHEW, you get to see exactly why Zhou Zishu believes he deserves those nails. To the point it makes it hard to root for him (and start actively rooting for the nails instead lmao). It's a good thing that they softened him up so much for the show.

I have finished the series :) I just binge-reacted and then sat on actually editing for months x.x (ep 3 coming soon!!) I am early in Lord 7th and I saw a mention of ZZS’s father I believe? And I was like oooh I can’t wait til we actually get to see ZZS. I’m only at chapter 11…the kids need to grow up first!

As far as wuxia vs xianxia, I’m still confused. I’ve heard people say The Untamed is a mix of both. There’s also a very important cultivation method in this show.. I can tell it is more on the fighting side of things, for sure.

Yes, I did! Heaven Official's Blessing season 1 donghua and the Untamed were my gateway into Danmei and Chinese BL. I think I just randomly found them on Netflix one day
