Thank you for explaining it so well, and I totally agree with you. I would like to add that YBY also said no one dies on his watch nor anyone dies before him. So this can give you a hint that he won’t just send WKX to go and die for ZZS. He definitely knows how it feel to be alone. AvenueX also touched upon the ending for BL drama. She said censorship won’t allow any HE for BL dramas. It’s either OE/BE, no HE. That’s why we think that Youku cut out the real ending from episode 36 to put it in the MV as a special episode so that they can have their HE. It’s a smart way to circumvent the censorship, and of course a chance for them to make extra money too 😆

What I love from this series is that the character show a joyful love from the beginning. the viewers know that they are set to be boyfriends and they express this in the many creatively ways is possible under the Chinese censorship. They laughed their head off to each other, they embrace, holds hands, caress each other hair, and take their top off without much protocol. What a rewarding viewing experience for the public in the context of Chinese dramas. I understand why the series has became more popular than the Untamed. WWX and LWJ would be forever my iconic couple, played magically by the exquisite beauties that are ZX and WY but leave us with an unhealthy Yizhan longing, and the fact that they separated in the end, different from the novel is a anticlimax. In WOH they held each other until the end and became one loving energy, I loved it so beautiful to see. All the other characters are also so interesting particularly the female ones. Bring more women to BL dramas please! I was bored with all those boys running around in the Untamed. Honestly, if it is not that WWX and LWJ was such a power couple it would have been so uninteresting. We need strong multilayer females roles even in BL dramas!!

I have an another idea about the ending....Though wkx's hair turned grey and his meridians broke, he got yin yang book in armory which initially in the drama they want to get it to cure Ah xu's meridians....So maybe he cured himself and lived happily with his Ah xu

Also another hint is when YBY asks WKX if he is willing to give up his life and WKX agrees, YBY is happy. He wouldn't be happy at WKX dying. I think he just wanted to make sure he was willing to sacrifice and not actually have to. Thanks for talking about these hints. A lot of people miss them and then are confused about the extra.

Thank you for this clear, easy to understand explanation. The happy ending makes so much more sense to me, not just as a wish fulfilment. I find it too strange that the drama would leave us with no clue about the future of Zhou after the implied death of Lao Wen. After all, we have just invested our time in following them through 36 episodes. I think we can definitely put the sad, ambiguous ending down to censorship. Thank Youku for the Easter Egg ending, and thank you for your explanation. And please do give us your thoughts on all the BL elements 😊

Thank you for the explanation, especially about the replaced dialogue! I did wonder (when Wen Kexing was explaining that he was going to use himself as a furnace and burn up his meridians) whether Zhou Zishu would wake up, see Wen Kexing dying, and then use his newly-formed meridians as a furnace to save Wen Kexing, trapping themselves in a cycle of trying to save each other.

Thank you for putting back a smile on my face - I did not want Ah Xu to live without WKS since both expressed that one cannot live without the other. That was why the ending was very confusing to me. No way one would die. It does not make any sense. I had to re-watch three times before I found you to explain the ending I WANT. Good movie!! Thorough explanation!! Very handsome Chinese actors!! I'm cryinggg this explanation is perfect🥺 It touches my heart what you mentioned about YBY, he failed to do the method with his beloved and so didn't want to see wenzhou suffer the same pain as he did.♡ Imo, YBY tried the method with his beloved because he hoped until the end that their feelings were the same and so they would both survive, since their love was unclear, and when he saw the result... :(

Also. EP 36 ended abruptly when disciples are called out for dinner, while in EP 37 dad goes to get his son for dinner. So both scenes are connected by continuity.

You are right . It is very different ending but makes sense. I feel very empty after i finish this drama . He was willing to live just 3 years ,but after they meet he wanted to live more so that's don't make sense if his reason dies because of him . The meaning of ending is actually very simple . And you explained very good .

After 6 years being introduced and friends keep convincing to watch. Now finally able to enjoy selected dramas like these two and want to learn every detail as possible. I stumbled on this site because I was puzzled by the ending. I was blown over by the moderator. Her Chinese is obviously excellent but her command of English is superb as well and her pronunciation faultless. I wish the CTGN reporters are half as good. She puts them all to shame.
