This is a lesson filled with very useful information. We see how the prepositional phrases can be moved around within a sentence. Knowing this helps us to avoid repetition in our writing.

Indeed, it's good to know different patterns so that we can state our ideas clearly, but also avoid sounding repetitive or wordy.

Simply awesome! This couldn't have got better than this. Your explanation of difficult grammar makes it all the more easy. He jumped in the bed. In the morning, we went for the walk. He succeeded after years of hard work. Or After years of hard work, he succeeded. What a nice watch! This is what I was looking for. This is the job for which I was looking. or This is the job I was looking for. People are talking a lot about the recently released movie. The recently released movie is being talked about a lot. The person about whom I talked is a nice guy. The person I talked about is a nice guy. Please have a look at my examples! Take care!
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the enthusiastic support. Thank you, Hilal. You have a good grasp on word order patterns. Notes: 1. This is the job for which I was looking. > Correct, but not natural in everyday English. It's formal grammar. 2. The recently released movie is being talked about a lot. > Correct, but your first version is more natural in everyday English: People are talking a lot about the recently released movie. Other variations in that situation: The recently released movie has been much discussed by critics and moviegoers. (more formal) The recently released movie is all anyone is talking about. (more conversational) 3. The last two examples are correct, again there are more natural variations: The person I mentioned is a nice guy. The person I told you about is a nice guy. The person I was talking about is a nice guy.

In the example "who do you want to talk to", is "want to talk" the main verb?

WANT is the main verb. The infinitive "to talk to" follows "want." Want can be followed by an infinitive but not a gerund (-ing).

@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. The more natural passive version is with the direct object, not the indirect object. All the blame was heaped on her. Using the indirect object can require more creativity: She was the one (who) all the blame was heaped on. It was she whom all the blame was heaped on. (OR on whom)

To Mom, mackerel and pike and scabbard fish were all just Fish. Mam , To Mom what is in this sentence I don't understand it grammatical placement
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 жыл бұрын
"To Mom" can go in the initial or final position. You're limiting the meaning of "were all just fish." Only in the eyes (opinion) of your mother, those three kinds weren't different in any way. She saw them all as fish and nothing special distinguished any of them.
