Thank you for the video. I have EW Hollywood Backup Singers. Perhaps you can show a video with a couple of in-depth techniques that I struggle with. For each of the following words: the 'Yuh' sound at the beginning of the words 'You' and 'Yours'. The 'Huh' sound at the beginning of the word 'He' or 'Here'. The cussive 'Tuh' in the word 'to'. The 'Wuh' at the beginning of 'Wait' or 'When' and the 'muh' or 'meh' for the more 'me'. I have worked with the Staccato settings for the Letters but not the 'Syllable' portion yet. Each of the above words seem difficult to get the 'cussives' if that's the right word. Your suggestions and tutorials would be a great help.

Hi Euan, great video, thanks. One quick question: you mentioned at the beginning that the stock Votox sound for the word "new" sounded more like "nooo" (American pronunciation, I guess), but you didn't show how to change it to sound more like "new" (UK pronunciation). Given that your name contains the sound I'm trying to create 🙂, how would you go about it?
@euansmithmusic4 ай бұрын
Hi Kim, thanks for your question. The ‘Eu’ is a bit like You or Yoo, so experiment with “nu” or ‘nU’. Sometines using capitals can affect the vowel sounds. If you also ‘borrow’ one of the existing phrases from the drop-down menu and tweak from there. I’ll have a try too and update this comment if I find a better way.

Helpful video Euan - do you have a view on what is the best "wordbuilder" type choir out there?
@euansmithmusic4 жыл бұрын
+PriaboniaMusic it’s a good question. It depends on what you’re looking for. Word builder works well for libraries like Hollywood Choirs and Symphonic Choirs. Hollywood Choirs gives you the intensity of sound for big epic scores. Backup singers uses Wordbuilder for more nuanced smaller group multi patches and good for singer/ songwriters. Try out their ComposerCloud and have some fun.

I would love to see some video that shows the workflow of using the Word Builder for an entire song. I suppose that you would end up with every single word to be sung by a choir in a single Play instance. If you had two vocals lines (maybe a women's choir and a men's choir), you end up with two instances of Play, each with its own word builder phrase. Is that it, or is there another approach that does it?
@euansmithmusic4 жыл бұрын
+Eddie Lovelace that would do it. One way to help would be to write your lyrics, then copy and paste them. Then you could split up any syllables. You’d use two or 4 tracks (if you wanted cross-rhythms or effective melisma). It’s worth a go. I will see if I can create a demo of this soon. I’ve got another video planned and I’m hoping to get back into the Make Music Like series too. Watch this space and thanks for watching 😁

Thank you so much for your time and dedication to your outstanding service to our community. I hope my question is inside the realm of reason. It appears that all 14 singers in my male choir want to sing different syllables from time to time. I've purged and reloaded a few times but the problem still persists. Do you have experience with this annoyance or perhaps a friendly recommendation? I'm using EW Hollywood Choir.with Opus.
@euansmithmusic2 жыл бұрын
Oh right, yes, are you using multiple tracks? Sometimes when a key is pressed by accident it can offset some of the phrases to the next syllable. Double press the return home should help, but interestingly, if you want to stop, reset the phrases, then you can purge the playback by editing note lengths. Checkout this handy guide: www.soundsonline-forums.com/docs/EW-Hollywood-Choirs-User-Manual.pdf If you’re using one track and are using multi voice, SATB on one track, then it’ll be harder to keep the flow. I do have a melisma video on my channel that’ll help to give you a nice melisma over several notes (keeping EE or AAH for example). This might help. Sorry, it’s late in the UK, so I might have rambled a bit. I hope it helps. Thanks for your support. 😀

Hi and thanks for watching. At present, there isn’t, and even trying the pitch bend yields no results. Different libraries function uniquely. You mean to create a melisma; using one long "Aah" sound but covering several notes? 1 - Change the vowels each time to reduce the "A" to soften it to almost inaudible hearing. 2 - OR export the choral phrase as an audio file and crossfade the stuttered sounds / elongate the audio. 3 - Watch the updated version of this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2qmpGqiiMaJiM0 4 - Like and Subscribe to this video and my channel. Hello. Could you tell me how to activate the sync function with the DAW (Cubase)? Thanks
@euansmithmusic3 жыл бұрын
I’ve not used Cubase for this, but F4 will help to sync, if you’re starting to play halfway through the phrase. Wordbuilder includes DAW sync’ing to get round the problem. As with the speed learning described earlier, play through the entire sequenced part in Sync/Draw Only Learn mode, and HWC will now follow the lyrics from any point. There is one caveat; if your DAW is configured to chase notes (ie. notes sound wherever in their duration you hit ‘play’) you must start playback during a gap between syllables. If you start playing in the middle of a note, WB will simply continue its cycle from wherever it last left off (usually in the wrong place), and will never realign itself correctly. Hopefully one of these works for you.

Thanks for your question. If you already have a sentence, you just copy and paste it in, but if you want the sounds of each word to fall on different notes, you have to separate the syllables of each word. This can be trial and error, but it does work. An example of this is shown in the updated follow up video that I recorded here: kzbin.info/aero/PLJ1MA7R7-OSy4PUMWI3tfaBlsFAuOKepI. If you’re finding that it overwrites your sentence or starts at the wrong part of the sentence, just restart the music from the start. It’s not ideal but it’s the only way. Shorter phrases in shorter MIDI region recordings will work better. Good luck and happy composing.

Oh, here’s that playlist I mentioned: Wordbuilder Tutorials to Make Realistic Choirs with East West Vocal Libraries kzbin.info/aero/PLJ1MA7R7-OSy4PUMWI3tfaBlsFAuOKepI Enjoy in all its glorious SCOTTISH glory! Have a good day now 😀

I just can't understand them... I've watched many other videos.. Thought about using my studio monitors to listen, but best decided to use my common Google pixel six to listen... And I can't understand them!

You don’t understand the vocal sounds? This was quite an old video, so it might be a challenge. The plugin has had sone improvements since and in my other Wordbuilder videos, I share how you can get a more nuanced sound. Get out the full playlist.

Search ComposerCloud plus and it’s around $20 or £20 per month minimum.

I like to include these quirks in all my videos. You should watch them all, then subscribe of course 😁

The choir sound is much lower than your voice. Makes it hard to deliver what we're looking for in this video.

Thanks Divine. What were you looking for from this video that you feel it didn’t deliver?

Sorry to have to say, but your presentation of an overview requires that you understand how to set up WB and how to make the basic function work. Your training starts at step 2 or 3. I need start-up instructions to make the program work. You are not the only one presenting EW and starting well after the basic setup.

Hello Stein and thanks for watching. I’m hoping you watched the full video. This was purely about the Wordbuilder Interface. To prepare for this video: 1) You need a license for an East West vocal library that uses MULTI patches and WORDBUILDER through the PLAY plugin. 2) You need the library downloaded on an external SSD / HDD. 3) Wordbuilder is part of the PLAY engine; a plug-in that you access via your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), much like Kontakt or Spitfire Audio’s dedicated plugin. 4) Select the choir multi patch you wish. 5) If stuck, visit soundsonline for a full guide on setting it up. I’ve also posted a link to the previous questionner. Let me know if you’d like more detail than this. Subscribe too, because I’m working on more videos like this to be released before Christmas.
