When I was a new convert, from Judaism, my conversion experience (on March 12, 1990) was so powerful and dramatic, I fell madly in love with Jesus. I was totally astounded to realize that Jesus is real! Jesus is alive! He has all the power and all the love! I got on my knees and prayed, “Lord, I’m yours body and soul, do whatever You want with me.” I asked Him to find me my church before Easter. I didn’t trust myself to choose from among all those churches out there. I really didn’t know anything about churches. I just wanted to be as close to Jesus as I could possibly be. I was so crazy about Jesus, I asked Him to marry me. I even bought a ring, with three hearts, which I wear to this day. Did I understand all this beautiful theology Bishop Barron is teaching us? No. I just knew Jesus is awesome and I want to belong to Him and nobody else. Within a month, the Lord led me to the Catholic Church. I entered the Church in 1991. Where else could I be this close, this intimate, with the Lord? The Lord knew exactly what He was doing when He brought me to the Church He founded. I thank God every day for my Catholic Faith.

God bless you! Your story reminds me of Edith Stein (now Saint Benedicta of the Cross) who accepted ... excuse me ... fell in love with Jesus in 1920s. She said "I had given up practicing my Jewish religion when I was a 14-year-old girl and did not begin to feel Jewish again until I had returned to God." The latter part has intrigued me since; after baptism she saw herself as Jewish again. Saint Benedicta of the Cross, pray for us!

Bishop Barron, Your comments today brought to mind and confirms so much of what I have pondered for some time. I don't think a person can truly understand salvation history without understanding the Incarnation. Through the Incarnation, God is showing that it is His intention that there be a collaboration between God and Humanity. In the first book of the Bible, God creates, but leaves it to humanity to cultivate it. He tells Moses that he would be "like God to Pharaoh." Jesus, at the Jordan tells John that He should be baptized for the fulfilment of all righteousness. It is my understanding that when John used righteousness, he was intending to convey the idea that it was according to God's Will. John's baptism was one of repentance. So there you have Jesus being baptized as a sign of repentance. As True God, he sits in the Eternal Now so it is repentance once. But as True Man, His act of repentance, speaks for all of Humanity. Later, Jesus tells His disciples to be Perfect as the heavenly Father is Perfect. But admits that perfection is ONLY possible with God. Again , as True God and True Man he reaches that perfection by doing the Father's Will perfectly. Which then brings to mind something said by the Prophet Jeremiah that if God could find just one who acts justly and seeks honesty, He would pardon all. Doesn't Jesus fulfill that conditional promise of pardon? Finally, the steward's statement that "the best was saved for last." seems to have significance to another wedding feast mentioned in the New Testament, The Wedding of the Lamb. All those present will experience God's greatest attribute, His mercy and exclaim, "He has saved the Best for last."

Mid-January brings memories of when I attended a celebration for my brother and sister after their marriage. It's fitting to hear this Gospel story, which evokes memories of their marriage celebration. It's amazing to think that, even though we've gone astray, God delights in us, and seeks after us, wanting to be married to us. It's so insightful that Bishop Barron says this story, the first of the signs in the Gospel according to St. John, is a lens for how we can see the rest of the stories in the liturgical year, that God loves us so much and earnestly seeks after us. I also think about how the Exultet uses the imagery of marriage, saying that Holy Saturday night is the night when the things of Earth are wed to the things of Heaven, because Christ has come to bring the human and the divine together.

I use this passage to teach my children of Our Lady’s powerful intercession. At the wedding, Jesus says it’s not his time yet , to his mother. She didn’t start pleading with him to perform his first miracle, she went right over his head ( so to speak ) and told the staff to do what he says! Powerful! 🙏🏼 I believe she still has that Devine influence on her son.

Good morning Bishop 🙏🏻Thank you for all your work ❤️🙏🏻😊
So glad you mentioned Irenaeus! I just discovered the passage below and it really helped me understand. With Him is nothing incomplete or out of due season, just as with the Father there is nothing incongruous. For all these things were foreknown by the Father; but the Son works them out at the proper time in perfect order and sequence. This was the reason why, when Mary was urging [Him] on to [perform] the wonderful miracle of the wine, and was desirous before the time to partake of the cup of emblematic significance, the Lord, checking her untimely haste, said, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come” - waiting for that hour which was foreknown by the Father.
