Word on the Streets

Word on the Streets

Күн бұрын

For our second episode of Word on the Streets, we have a conversation with our friends Tony Palitano (AV Boys) & Tess Wood (Miss Midnight Maverick), about their legendary lives that they have lived. Born and raised in California, Tony is the one of the most popular street racers from Cali, famous for dominating in his stick shift Mustang known as the Grey Mare. Tess Wood is famous for driving her Pro charged Ford Maverick and has recently started a KZbin channel, vlogging her and Tony's racing lives. These two have a very special and competitive dynamic that everyone around them will soak up, and everyone has something to learn from these two. We hope you enjoy!

Digging this new idea and channel gives you all a great opportunity to give some true "lives behind the scene" kind of thing which honestly a ton of people are interested in. You guys being shy and awkward just FYI is actually part of what's endearing about you all. You aren't super well polished and "pretend" you're just normal folks enjoying what you do and sharing it on the internet.

Agree 100%. Also, listening to Tony and Tess talk about their 'how I got started' and 'why we do what we do' was lot of fun too. Like some of you until we were introduced to Tony and Tess when they bought the white Mustang, to subscribing to their KZbin channels and watch what they do has been so much fun to get to know more and more about them. The Hoskinson family IS America and we thoroughly enjoy their videos.

I could watch and listen to you 4 all day long. And Tony is LEGENDARY TO KZbin. I grew up watching Arlen Vanke, he was my grandparents next door neighbor and Bill otie Smith and the legendary Art Arfons. Those 3 are the men who brought big time drag racing to the east coast. We had Summit Racing Midwest Auto parts and jegs a lil south. Had Lou' performance, otie's speedshop and canton automotive machine all in my area. Within 30mins away. Norwalk and 42 and Quaker City. I was like 10 sneaking out with my siblings in the 70s on a Saturday night to watch them drG race on Arlington. (My mom worked late nights) And riding in Arlens S/S BO29 Barracuda for my first experience with a full blown drag car. But still built and worked on in a lil garage with no lift. The neighborhood helped keep the car racing. Then the 90s myself in Massillon racing up and down Lincolnwood on a Saturday night. Cruising up and down the rd. Then pulling in the Kmart parking lot to set up the race. And we went on the traffic lights changing to green. Fridays were football and Saturdays were racing. Even the cop had a bad ass El Camino that would drag your ass up and down Lincolnway. The was never any problems from the 70s to the 90s except the 80s. Things kinda slowed down then. But that's what I miss. You knew everybody. Today people don't even kno their neighbors. Or are too afraid to meet new people. Like it's a bad thing. Then that's were SRC came along. Took me back to my youth. And your dad and my philosophy of life are identical except I was always a Ford guy. Now I'm leaning to the Mopars. And since I can't afford full size cars I like my 5th scale rc builds and many Revo 3.3s. And I race motorcycles. My 1st Gen Full power VMAX 1992 and my 152ci S/S pro street chopper. I've got of 11000 in my engine and don't even have 10 miles on it in 2yrs. Cuz with more power more things brake. On a bike you can't break a swing arm at 125mph or your done, done. Thanks Guys for helping us all get our asses of the couch and go out and do something. To be something. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. And GODBLESS ALL.

Love the new channel. It give everyone a chance to learn more about who we love to see racing. Tony is a stand up guy living his passion and helping who he can along the way. The dream life! And then there's Tess😜,,,, Holy Smokes, she is a beast😲 behind the wheel, and absolutely Gorgeous all the time! And hands on when it comes to working on the cars makes her even more special. I started street racing when I was 15yr old, 1974. My buddy had a '67 Mustang 289 and slightly built when he bought it. His brother had a '70 Road Runner. Their cousin had a '71 Duster and a '69 Chevelle. We just raced anywhere back then, even light to light..lol I did a lot of the wrenching for them. My car was a '67 Corronet. Then life got in the way of racing and I never got back to it. But I still love it and watch every chance I get to see you guys race. It makes me feel like I'm there in the drivers seat again. But the cars/trucks are waaaaay better and faster than they were then. Keep it up Tommy and Billy, Tony and Tess. Grrreat job! Happy Holidays to you all! ~~Dave

I liked your post Dave. I'm an old dude (75) but my time street racing was on the streets of Portland, Ore back in the mid 1960's. My car wasn't fast BUT I had a couple buddys who did have fast cars. One had a 1964 Olds 442 (the first year for the 442), it had a small block 330ci/4speed and it was very quick light to light. Another friend had a '67 Coronet 440ci/4speed with 456 gears that was awesome on street slicks for the light to light racing. Another buddy had a '57 Ford with a 406ci/top loader 4 speed, 4:11 gears on street slicks that won a ton off street races. I was married with our first (of 5) children so my having the money and time to join in just wasn't there. I finally did get a pretty quick car when I bought a brand new '70 340/torqueflight Dart. It was pretty quick for the day. Life made me stay away from racing but my love for the sport of drag racing never left me. Finally after all the kids were raised and our construction business allowed me to have a car of my dreams I got into racing NHRA SuperGas, AHRA/IHRA ProGas in a 1963 Chevy II Nova in the mid 1980's. We raced pretty successfully until the late 1980's when all the electronics came to be nd I stepped away,, all that electronic stuff intimidated me so it wasn't fun. We took the car off the track, did a ton of work and spent too much to make it a show car (won some shows too) and did that until the early 2000's. Now I watch street racing on KZbin and enjoy living life vicariously through a bunch of these kids like the Hoskinson family, Tony and Tess, 187 Customs, Jackie and Chief and a few others. GOD Bless KZbin for giving us these opportunities to watch others enjoying the fun we used to have.

@@quickdeuce Kudos to you my friend. You've got about 12 years on me. I too spent a life of construction/carpentry building some fine homes until my back gave out a few years ago. Now 8m retired and taking care of mom(85), and watching youtube. Just living the country life! Oddly enough, I too had a Dart I purchased at a police auction in Riverside Ca in '87 for $250. Mine was a bit older and not race fast, but it was surely a classic and fun to drive. It was a '63 w/225 slant six, automatic pushbutton shift on the dash. How I regret not fixing it when the bands started slipping. But I was in the process of a divorce, a move across the country with just me to take care of my then young daughter and son. So I let a salvage yard come get it for $50. Oh well. I still do all my own vehicle work, but hate the electronics. Life was so much easier without it..haha Happy Holidays to you and your family! God bless and stay safe!

When we build or buy a race car we all think the greatest memories and goals are at the track laying down the fastest time possible. But when you're sitting around reminiscing and talking with friends, family and even strangers about your race car you soon realize the best and the memories you're most fond of were made before you get to the track and after you leave the track. The gathering of friends, family, and even rivals at the garages and shops across the world are where the majority of your greatest, and most fond memories are made. Hot Rods were social media long before there ever was social media. Hot Rods bring family, friends, rivals and even complete strangers together for a common bond, and passion that runs deep in your soul. I really enjoy the Podcast, I'm not a big Podcast type of guy but so far the History and stories of Hot Rodders have me hooked. Take care, be safe, and have fun regardless.

Crazy to think I may have crossed paths with Tony and never knew. Those were good times. Some of your questions got me going down memory lane! I was an early 80's racing my 71 Chevelle SS. All engine, headers, Holley 4bbl 750 dbl pumper & a stage 2 Comp Cam. 10:1 compression. When it was time to race, a lot of guys thought the way to launch was to burn as much rubber as possible. That's when I'd walk off a leave em sitting there burning their tires off!! I'd hit 2nd gear "chirp" and they're looking at my tail lights! What lead me to SRC Channel was the "Shiners", which lead to DNR...and it's been an adventure since!!! I've grown attached to y'all! Pretty cool kids man!!! Thanks for your hard work to put quality videos out there!! I'm a fan 4/ever! Tommy does awesome editing on these videos!!! Everyone puts in 110%! Merry Christmas to everyone!! Always looking forward to more videos!! 🚗✨✨✨✨✨💨 ✌😎🇺🇸✨

LOL.. The good ol days.. I was doin it in the early 90's.. Its funny how we all thought we were fast AF.. Well a fast street car then, was not even topping 400whp.. Most guys with Big blocks were in the bottom 300hp range if that.. I crashed my 70 Nova, got a 89 fox notch, 4.30gears, B-303cam, trick flow heads, and a 150shot of NX when I needed some juice.. I was running bottom 10's stick shift on a bias ply.. It was the fastest car in town for a few yrs..

Hey you guys, old N.H. guy here again. My honest opinion on this episode----PERFECT !! Tommy was all worried about not being professional, but that to me made it great. It felt kinda like a few people sitting around a campfire, having some adult beverages, sharing stories and just being natural. I've watched the 2nd one too, with Beater Bomb, and not taking anything away from his accomplishments, but I was more impressed by Tony and Tess' honesty and humbleness while sharing their histories. So I'm hoping you guys continue along the same theme in future episodes. I cant wait to see who's next !! Merry Christmas everyone !!

11:27 the car was called the mighty 93. It was an s trimmed, xcam , dart heads Gt-40 intake , 3:73 gears running 11:30s . The wreck was from him falling asleep behind the wheel, on the 14 freeway, flipping the car because of the race suspension and over correcting and bounced his head off the fucking roll bar because he didn’t use seat belts in those days . I remember that it was one of the cleanest foxes I had ever seen. It was crazy seeing all burned out at the hardwood house because it had also caught fire and burned the whole car down .
