Hi GREAT video! but ive got a review to make for elementor, consider it getting things off my chest! Ok here is the truth from a power user, i’ve built many sites with elementor between the period 2017 - 21 so i can perhaps share my experiences. The one thing that is over looked but talked about within many elementor developers is the mess that production becomes when updates occur. Its basically a lottery with a lot of the functionally breaking with 3rd party plugin developers (elementor leans heavily on these 3rd party plugins) having to produce an update. So, usually, it takes a few days for everything to go back to normal, but be warned there will be stress and down times. Most of these issues occur in the backend editor. Every elementor user would have come across the spinning wheel or the grey screen when elementor refuses to load up. Or missing widgets from 3rd party developers. A lof these issues in most cases aare ttributed to one of the 3rd party plugins and not elementor itself. But like i said, elementor leans on these add ons. The good news is, elementor is slowly adopting a lot of the cool widgets these 3rd party plugins offer. So in the future you would hopefully not need to use these. Which leads me to plugins. There a lot and most them are ok, but they add too much bloat and even though the developers have said they have reduced and fixed some of this bloat, elementor is still loading widgets that are not used on pages. And a lot of these plugins all offer the same bloatware widgets, in fact some of them are direct copies of widgets that are in elementor pro with maybe 1 or 2 new settings added. Elementor speed is a worry and not just page speed but the editor itself. Websites that are hosted on cheap plans suffer with elementor. There is just not enough resource power to make elementor work with all the plugins on cheap plans. On top of an already expensive yearly plan to use the page builder + the added costs of pro plugins, having to fork out more money to host an elementor website has made many clients bulk (its been fun explaining to clients the cost of yearly subscriptions to plugins + hosting on top of my fee) and they tend to look elsewhere. Heck ive had clients tell me they are just going to use Wix because its easier and cheaper overall. When the whole elementor eco system works its brilliant to use, you can go days with uninterrupted production..BUT as soon as there are updates be warned..you will face issues and some downtime. This should not be the case nor be some kind of “new normal” developers who use elementor should be dealing with. At the end of the day lost production time = lost revenue and like me, many users are fed up. Its the best of an avg lot tbh but I’ve decided to move on and go back to building sites the old way. Ive tried all the page builders and the time and money spent is just not visable for me atm and my business but that doesnt mean its not good for you.

I think most long term Elementor users experience the same issues and is a key reason why so many have jumped to alternatives. Great reply though. :)

I'm actually curious if it is smart to use a pagebuilder in the longrun? What if the company stops with the pagebuilder in about 5 years? Will my whole website be gone or broken? You see, i'm working for a company where we have several real estate projects each year which all need an individual website with USP's etc. Atm, we're working with the gutenberg editor in combination with custom made blocks made by another company. But it's really not that efficient and is very limited at times. So i'm looking for an alternative. I've tried elementor before but sometimes it feels kinda clunky because it's so sensitive to errors. Also, the amount of widgets it provides gives a feeling it makes my website slow and unreliable. I had Zion already installed on that sub-domain and didn't really want to go to the hassle of setting up a complete new sub-domain just to run the example setup. I've moved over to Gutenberg and Blocksy for various websites, including the new WPTuts site as I don't think that a PB is needed for every type of website. @@WPTuts True, sometimes PBs are overkill, although I've tried to make all sites as client friendly as possible so usually end up requiring dynamic content so important information can be changed easily. I don't like builders that overuse hover actions. using Divi is like going through an acid trip, just move your mouse around and things are popping up and bouncing around, little "plus" bubbles every which way, colors all over the place, slideout menus. Some of these builders I want to yell at the screen CALM DOWN! Divi might have a "lot of options" but I actually find it quite limiting. For example if I put a header down like an H2, then I want to put a class on it, I can't. In fact I can't actually put a class on ANYTHING, because Divi doesn't put the class on the thing I select, it puts the class somewhere on parent or grandparent container element. So I can't put the class on the h2 or whatever the element is, it goes on some ancestor. So now when I want to style from this class, I have to create a selector chain to get to my actual element. Because of the "divception" of so many builders, you have very little control over the attributes, classes, ID of specific elements. In this respect, Oxygen so far is the best. If I want to put down an H2 and then put a class and ID on it, I can. I can put class, ID, and custom attributes on the exact element I want them on, without magic containers getting them applied instead. Oxygen also doesn't suffer from hover-tripping. You said the UI is outdated, but I don't think so, it looks like really any design tool that uses vertical panels. I prefer a UI that stays trim, condensed, and doesn't use huge fonts and aggressive padding on everything. For example Divi and Beaver popup panels use so much screen real estate to do so little. I prefer a nicely done consistent, minimal UI that reminds me of other design tools like Photoshop or whatever. Divi seems to be trying to look like a 4 year old's play thing. Colorful, larger, bouncing things all over the place, whack-a-mole popups. Anyway, videos like these downplay the importance of repeaters, loops, dynamic data, and conditionals. I don't know why. How can a website even be built without those features? Do people create sites that don't loop data, create grids of content, show listings of things? Do they never hide or show any content based on user logged in/out, or user roles, or dates, or other conditions? Can you build a website and not even require a single piece of dynamic content to be output? Sounds more like generic landing pages than an actual real-world website. I couldn't use a page builder if it didn't have repeaters that can connect to custom post types, ACF, etc, and lets me output dynamic data, custom code. Conditionals you could hack in with Javascript perhaps or PHP filters, but it's nice to get it in the builder UX. The builder needs to (as much as possible) encourage global design patterns. Using global options, colors, fonts, styles, elements, reusable components, along with styling based on classes and IDs and other selectors. I see far too many Elementor and Divi sites with completely trashed, inconsistent designs because people just design everything manually on every page randomly. Buttons look different everywhere, paddings set arbitrarily on each page, fonts changed for no reasons, font sizes set manually as the person sees fit. Things get out of whack very quickly. All builders can do this, but I think Oxygen is slightly more helpful in this regard with how it applies everything to the class. Although if you have multiple classes, just be sure about which one is current when you go to style something. I'm most curious about Bricks and Zion because they follow the Oxygen UI patterns. I'm kind of over the way Divi and Beaver do things, or the hover-centric, draggy-droppy patters that are overly-animated. I just want a sensible, minimal , condensed, pro tool that looks like a design and dev tool, not a play toy. I don't want over-dependence on having to use premade templates to "get started". I don't want to be limited in my ability to add code if needed, with things like code blocks, dynamics, conditions, or inserted completely custom things if the builder doesn't support something. So with that, I'm pretty much an Oxygen fan right now, but that doesn't mean I don't have cons, plenty of cons. I've already written enough!
@Yoshua-Robinson2 жыл бұрын
