aint battle rap the only kind of poetry that should be celebratedby... battling? every other kind of lyrical expression misses the aggressive characteristic battle rappers put in their words... on purpose?! i dont seem to understand it myself but this comparison is pretty fucked up, because the so called poets are certain to make the bigger impact on people because they are spectacularly taking a step out of their comfort zone, meeting the rappers on a level on which the rappers in return appear normal and kinda boring. feels like a handball team challenging a basket ball team

i wouldn't necessarily say that are dramatically different. poetry and rapping are same. I completely agree. stupid to separate the two. while battlers have an objective of winning or defeating on opponent, poets don't. it's more artful I'd say.

a poet can can be fake and you wouldn't know - a rapper HAS to be real... that isn't me talking some kind of "yo respect the streets shit" ... i'm saying that; for its sincerity to be accepted, then it needs to be delivered with an acute degree of authenticity... and in my opinion, that is what seperates the 2. This is why people like Mark Grist and Harry Baker can cross over, but others fail to find their feet. It's about being true to yourself. No amount of aggression or slang words will compensate for what looks false, in the eye of the audience.
