Hahaha, You are 100% correct. I feel ashamed how Stug wij nederlandse mannen zijn. Zelfs als je in Vuur en Vlam staat voor een vrouw, komt het er maar moeilijk uit. Hemaal Nu. as a German girl, I have been dating a Dutch boy for a month now. He doesn't say many compliments or flirts or anything in that kind really, but pays more attention to the little things and actions like making sure I feel okay, taking off my jacket for me, carrying me so i don't have to step into a puddle etc.. I'm Italian and I've been dating a Dutch guy for quite some time. It was hard for me to get if he was interested at the beginning, because in Italy when guys want to flirt it's very obvious(i.e. they're touchy and romantic and compliment you a lot) while here everything is more "friendly"- like and subtle(spending time with you, having nice one-on-one chats, texting a few times a day etc). So at first I completely missed the signs and thought I was in the friend-zone! Also, I like being very romantic and talking about feelings and sometimes that's a bit "cringe" for him 😂 But we're meeting halfway and we're very happy! 😊

I have never dated a dutch woman before but for reasons beyond my own comprehension I have been approached before by dutch women. I remember in Amsterdam this girl actually started flirting with me in dutch...problem was I didnt speak an ounce of it at the time. Same in Rotterdam aswell back when I visited the city. So best advice I can give is follow this chanel and learn the language, as I probably missed out on a lot because of that. What kills me is that they approached me in a such a smooth way, without acting inappropriately. If only I spoke dutch ahaha. Also, I don't believe height is that much of an issue...I mean Im portuguese...we look like hobbits over here 😂 and they still flirted with me. So learn the language to the fullest of your habilities and have comfidence in yourselfs 🙂

Mijn vriend is nederlands, en zijn favoriete compliment is "you're my favorite person" (wij spreken engels). It's kind of adorable, and he's also the reason I'm learning dutch. He also really appreciates my efforts to learn the language. It seems like a culture that values the little things, being there for each other, taking an interest in each other's lives, far more then overt demonstrations and grand romantic gestures. Or maybe that's just my boyfriend :) As for how to flirt with a Dutch guy all I can say is be direct? He was a bit dense in the beginning. Granted, there's an added layer of awkwardness when you start as old friends/penpals living on different continents.

I used to live in Netherlands for 9 months for an exchange program and now will come back again. I love the culture there , food and most especially Dutch people. Im a lesbian and Dutch women are so nice, sweet and friendly. I can just fall in love with one haha.. but Dutch people (for me) known to be friendly , what's the difference if they like you? I wanted to work out how to say something along the lines of "I love you, my love", (my boyfriend and I have been saying this in german but we want to say it in dutch!). What is some sort of term of endearment someone would say to their long term partner they are in love with, or between a married couple. Is "ik hou van je mijn lievelings" a good phrase or is this not the right context for lievelings? Does "hou" work for love in all contexts, serious, passionate or lighthearted, or are there different words for love ?

You can use the phrase you said, but then with "lieveling" (so without an S). "Lieveling" is darling and "lievelings" is favorite :) And we only say "houden van" for "to love" :) (as far as I can recall right now).

So Kim, what ya gonna be teaching wor next? :) Oh, oh! I saw a video on KZbin that explains how the Dutch educational system works! 😃😃😃🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 It’s kinda similar to Britain’s only WAY much better and the fact that you let the bairns stay at the primary schools and secondary schools two academic years earlier! 😃😃😃 How does the academic age work? Is it the same as the UK’s? Meaning, if somebody were born the 1st of September 1990 I would’ve been in the same class as them cuz my birthday is the 19th of February 1991!? XD Anyway! For The UK, the oldest academic age is 1st of September and the youngest (still going with the academic year!) Is the 31st or August! And there have been news reports saying Britain wants to change it because 4 year old primary kids born in the Summer tend to struggle! 😱😱😱 Do you Dutch do thy differently? :)

Do you have some different to GCSEs? :) Yeah! ;) We prats of Brits pretty much don’t exactly trust wor 15 year old students! 😱😱😱 So what secondary schools do is make them go through “mock exams” then one year after that THEN they do they’re GSCEs and in year 9, they three of them are mandatory (getting prepared for them!) and two of them are optional! I got none of that! Cuz I was a simpleton and my schools sucked! :( :(

- What is the difference between “ik hou van je” and “van hou je”? I have heard both ways. - I have never dated a dutch guy but I would like to share how different it is in our culture. I live in a Latinamerican country which means most of us kiss someone in the cheek when we are just meeting them (basically we kiss and hug everybody to say hi and goodbye, imagine how hard the pandemic has being on us). Most of the time we are called “intense” aaaaand they are right. Sure, not everybody but most of us hold hands, hug and kiss and are very touchy (not sexy touchy, it is more like caressing). I met a dutch guy who was nothing like the dutch stereotype (distant) and he actually told me he married a Latina because he liked that “intensity” which to be honest I found very odd.

Nice to know! Where are you from? A lot of Dutchies are kind of distant, a bit cold sometimes even. Not everybody of course! I am not, haha! And about your question: "ik houd van je" = I love you, and the other one is probably from "waarvan hou je?" and that is a question what you like. You can also say "ik houd van wandelen" = "I like walking"

Dutchies to be - Learn Dutch with Kim I KNEW that unreliable google translator would get it wrong! ;) 😂😂😂 Please tell me Kim, what else is there I can rely on if there are things I wanna know how to say in Dutch instead of google translator? :) And it’s SO easy to say; “the sand dancer” it’s; “De zand danser” ain’t it! ;) XD SURELY you’ve heard of South Shields haven’t you?! XD They’re called “Little Mix” they won the Xfactor since 2011! XXD

Well, unfortunately there aren't a lot of accurate translators for longer sentences, but if you want to translate single words, then it's best to use www.vandale.nl
