Child of God, do not say that the sun is quenched because the cloud has hidden it. No! It is behind there, preparing summer for you, for when it comes out again, it will have made the clouds ready to drop in April showers, all of them mothers of the sweet May flowers. Above all, when your God hides His face, do not say that He has forgotten you. He is only tarrying a little while to make you love Him better. When He comes, you will have joy in the Lord and will rejoice with joy unspeakable (1 Peter 1:8). Waiting exercises our grace. Waiting tests our faith. Therefore, wait in hope, for although the promise tarries, it can never come too late.
We never have such close dealings with God as when we are in tribulation. When the barn is full, we can live without God. When the safe is bursting with gold, we somehow can do without as much prayer. But once your gourds have been taken away (Jonah 4), you want your God. Once the idols are cleansed away out of the house, then you must go and honor the Lord.
God does not afflict willingly, nor grieve us for nothing, but He does so out of love and affection. He knows that if He leaves us unchastised, we will bring upon ourselves misery ten thousand times greater than we will suffer by His slight rebukes and the gentle blows of His hand. He is admonishing you, not punishing you. He is correcting you in measure, not smiting you in wrath. There is no angry displeasure in His heart. Even though His brow may be ruffled, there is no anger in Him toward you. Even though His eye may have closed upon you, He does not hate you. He still loves you.

Thank God for this anointed servant of His, Charles Spurgeon, whom He has used so mightily despite his depression. I'm 66 going through a tough time having been laid off my teaching job because of the pandemic. (I was feeling strong and at peace until recently.) I was chiding myself for my weak faith due to my lack of peace. I keep telling our Lord 'Jesus, my soul clings to You', Psalm 63:8. Then I learn that great faith will have great affliction, and believers too have their seasons of no joy, no peace. Thank You Holy Spirit, Sacred Comforter! God bless Aneko Press!

@@sharonschmeling6873 My experience with depression is that it wasn't until I realized, from reading scripture, that life isn't about me at all but about Christ. I learned that I must deny myself and follow Jesus. That is when my eyes, mind, and heart turned away from how I felt, and how I wished I felt, to living for Christ instead. And through that, I got the blessing I wished for, freedom from those fickle feelings.

Thank you 1000 times..... here's what's so wonderful about this: since we can safely say that our spirit connects with Spurgeon's spirit, and so we know that he was God's beloved servant, so it follows that - through these postings on utube, it is God who talks to us via Charles Spurgeon. I love and adore him (CHS) - and his teachings and his devotion, but he points me to a tremendous fact: when Bible reading can sometimes be difficult, God has given us the internet and even though we are reminded all the time to diligently seek God's word for our own benefit, it is an "unbelievable" blessing that we can be taught by God, via utube and an anointed teacher like Spurgeon. I'm blown away by this fact: that God is teaching/helping/comforting me - when I have nobody else around me. Praise and deepest love to Him, who loves me. Thank you for posting this, it's very very much appreciated!
