Thank you for the clear instructions. I can now see the report designer but in the left hand panel, Data Sources, when I click a data source, I cannot see any properties or details of what the data connection is or what SQL db it is actually connected to. Am I missing another VS Extension? Thanks!

Now you don't need the report builder because the RDLC report designer is officially supported fro VS 2022, You can find a simple tutorial with source code here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i52Zo2N9j72aqck

To use search parameters I advise you not to use a dataset linked to SQL server directly, but to use a collection of your data model which you can optimize with your search parameters before sending it to the reports.

You are very smart in this area! Maybe you can tell me how to get the reports to work on the end-users machine. They work fine in VS2022 and my program is in Framework 3.5 but when i install on the end-users computer it will not open the reports. Everything works great until it's installed on end-users computer.

Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll 10.0 Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel .dll 10.0 Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms.dll 10.0 Then I Embedded The Report and used this code to display it. 'Set the processing mode for the ReportViewer to Local ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Local 'Create a new instance of LocalReport and set the ReportEmbeddedResource property Dim localReport As LocalReport = New LocalReport() localReport.ReportEmbeddedResource = "ReportViewerIntro.Report1.rdlc" The only problem now is It will only show one report If I click this ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Local Dim localReport As LocalReport = New LocalReport() localReport.ReportEmbeddedResource = "ReportViewerIntro.BestReport.rdlc" it still shows the Report1. I'm still working on it.🤔 Note the reports work several ways in vs2023, the problem in on the end-user install But this works to show a single report, but I need to display several.🙂

I got it all to work. With the 3 dll's and then I set build action of reports to "content" (NOT Embedded) and displayed them like this ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Local ReportViewer1.LocalReport.ReportPath = "Reports/Report1b.rdlc" Thanks for your help with the Form Builder! 😎

You're welcome, Editing the report definition should work regardless of the data source as long as the data source was already defined and you are not trying to change it.. Adding a new data source however or editing existing one can prove to be a headache.. because the Report Builder is a separate application and it doesn't have access to your codebase.. The way to achieve this is by editing the XML definition directly to add the data source..

I am relatively new and VS but I find it frustrating that MS didn't include a working report system in 2022. What's the one thing that virtually every application need to provide? Reports. It's not rocket science. Thanks for your time. I'll see what happens.

In my opinion, I think that Microsoft pulling out and reducing staff working on reports and claiming "It is a low priority issue", is because they want developers to move on to their Power BI platform. What they don't understand is that most developers who need and use RDLC reports will almost never migrate to cloud-powered Power BI platform, Even if Microsoft entirely stops supporting creating and designing and displaying RDLC reports, we will find other workarounds, and even ultimately create our own offline reporting solution. I really hope they understand this and promote their Power BI platform to its target audience (which is not most of us) without making our lives difficult unnecessarily.

يمكن إضافة تقرير جديد بإحدى طريقتين: ١. نسخ تقرير قديم و تعديله بالبرنامج المذكور في الفيديو ٢. استخدام bold report designer المقدم من syncfusion .. يمكنك الاضافة عن طريقه .. لكن للأسف به بعض المشاكل تظهر في السيناريوهات غير الشائعة من الاستخدام بالنسبة لعرض التقرير في المشروع، لعل قريبا اضيف فيديو يشرح ذلك

If you set the default program to open RDLC files in visual studio to be: Microsoft Report Builder, then simply you can open the report file by double clicking it.
