I'm an aspiring archivist and honestly watching this video changed me. That might sound a bit dramatic but it's true! I've been thinking really hard about what part of archival work I would want my career to focus on, and I discovered today - because of your video - that my passion in history overlaps with my passion in education! Specifically educating the next generation. It's my passion to preserve history in a way that helps educate children about what actually happened in the past, not just what the internet says or what the government may prefer us to see rather than the truth. So thank you Sheila ❤️ I'd also love to get in touch, if you don't mind of course! I would love to see how you project/time manage! I am very forgetful and easily overwhelmed because of anxiety, so I'd love to see a video like that!

Thank you for commenting!! Soo happy to hear that this video helped clarify your career path/direction which sounds amazing btw. That’s why I was more drawn to archives work instead of teaching. I love teaching but not all the time 🤣 feel free to message me on Instagram if you’re on there! My handle is @sheilajoycreates 🧡

I’m also an archivist, but we’ve been back FT onsite for a while with an option to wfh two days a week. It is a bit harder sometimes to wfh, but I’ve been doing coworking sessions on zoom or discord with my friends to help us keep focused during the work day, and I also use forest to block my phone and also to put a timer to how long i need to focus (so usually 30-60 min blocks depending on what i’m working on. I put on either a tv show i know so well i can use it as background noise or a lofi live video which helps me focus. Love your videos!!

Thank you so much for this video I recently came across your channel. I'm studying Information science and I love what I'm studying but need experience in this field. Love how you made it clear for me what archivists do.

And by the way you are totally right when you said that is boring sometimes but it's more boring when you have a colleague at work are not professional and they through all files and when when needed they ask for your help. I am struggling exactly the same thing in my work recently and i said to my boss that's not an efficient job but unfortunately no answers and i think i'm gonna move from my department because there's no appreciation in your hard work, there's no discussion at all. I am really struggling with a colleague that all she wants is to please her boss and forgetting that i am who organise all work and know exactly what my work needs.😢

Hi! I am starting my MLIS program in the fall-- and am curious about archival work. Do you have an MLIS or related degree? This video was super interesting! I am trying to find out as much information about different areas I could work with an MLIS before I take classes. I can only take a certain amount of classes so want to make sure I take the ones that I would actually be interested in. I will definitely make my way through more of your videos about archival work! Thank you

thanks for the questions! I have a Master's Degree in Applied History (also known as public history). I've learned all my archiving skills on the job and have only taken a few courses on archival theory. There are also a lot of free workshops/classes available online if you're not ready for a degree yet.

Hi Sheila, I’d love to see more of the archive specifics videos please. To work in this field and from home (remote) do I need to enroll in courses in this area? Thank you 😊

I do catalogue my Books library shelves from time to time depending on new purchasing and i do catalogue them by authors first name and titles, but i do not like to put a sticker at the bottom of the books because i don't like to destroy them, so i created a huge sheet word programme in my computer and write all my books there and where their locations in shelves. I think back to computer reference is much easier to do when you have a lot of books.
