How do you make your homeschool more joyful?

These are my exact thoughts as we enter our 4th year homeschooling. I finally told myself I can’t please every child. Some things we HAVE to learn and it’ll be *GASP* boring! Or some things I find boring and they enjoy it. My 8 yr old told me she loves doing map work. I’m like what!? Ok fine let’s do more map work. 😅

This is utterly profound. I have been at this homeschooling thing, well, my oldest is 29 and youngest two are 11. I can not tell you what it means to me to hear the journey I have been on spoken out loud by another person. Realizing our own hidden motivations is sometimes the thing that hurts the most but then brings the best into our lives. Thank you, Pam!

This is an important message-sometimes, I hear homeschoolers touting certain homeschool approaches that can be time consuming and suggesting that if people don’t take “the golden approach,” they’ve robbed their kids of a great learning experience. Look at any graduate school program, and you will see people who were educated via a variety of educational philosophies. In short, there is no golden ticket that guarantees results. I think the best approach is to see what truly works for your kids and family rather than getting caught up in the idea that one philosophy or another is the golden ticket to perfectly educated kids (whatever that is).😅👍🏾

I needed to hear this today. Been feeling down about how bad my daughter’s attitude has been towards her school work lately. It helped to hear you say that “kids just have bad attitudes some days” and “I realized my kids were never going to be the perfect A student”. Yeah I need to accept those things :/

Thank you for this. I always have big ideas and big dreams and big plans...and often end up feeling defeated and swamped by the realities of life with a bigger family. I am blessed with five children ages 7 and under, and our homeschool days are far from Pinterest Perfect. I plan to use your suggestion of morning time to give us a predictable and joyous start to each day.

This was fantastic. We have our best days when we do morning routine. I have to remember to stick with it no matter what. I like the idea of just reading to them and letting them fiddle or draw. That’s what my boys want to do anyway. Meanwhile my daughter takes notes. I need to be more consistent.
