I grew up in Iowa. My father was an Iowa fan. I’ve been following the Hawks for a long time. I still have my crotchety old hand-me-down Iowa Rose Bowl jersey from the 1991 game. I remember watching the 2005 Capital One Bowl vividly, and I still get goose bumps thinking about Warren Holloway going out on such an exclamation point. I watched the first 3 games of the season via Skype while in Afghanistan in 2014. I was at Indy in person in 2015 and watched Beathard to Smith for 85 yards, only to have my heart broken by LJ Scott at the end of the game. I was at the inaugural “Wave” when Iowa took it to Wyoming. I think maybe I sat behind your family? Maybe Kulicks? I just remember 5 or 6 people all wearing the same jersey representing one of you. I was there in 2018 for one of Iowa’s many walk off winner field goals against Nebraska. I was at our last trip to the B1G ship against Michigan. I watched us get our asses kicked at OSU, and I even made it to Pasadena this year to see us lose to UCLA. My love for this team has always been a roller coaster of emotions. As a military dude I haven’t lived in Iowa in 17 years. I didn’t even go to Iowa. But I love this team. I love what you boys are doing, and I always appreciate your insight. This was a rough year to watch. We definitely look steps forward offensively. It’s never a good year for Iowa when they have multiple different dudes playing quarterback. Our defense just looked anemic at times. Our tackling against MSU was atrocious. We haven’t been the ball-hawk team this year that we have been so accustomed to. I’ll always be a loyal Hawkeye fan and I love the perspective you boys bring to fans everywhere. I think as fans we often forget that the humanity aspect of our players. I really enjoyed your interview with Petras. I’ll end it with saying that I am happy and proud that the Hawkeyes are helping raise great men. Happy new years. God Bless.

Happy New Year! Love the episode as always. Beyond the disappointment of yesterday's game, I'm happy to spend time with family and friends.

This year has been the story of two different teams at times with a overall ending with some real potential of finally moving forward. The offensive Line this year finally looked Like a real group of Men. QB Play has nothing but the sky as the limit going forward as the last few years it has been in rapid Decline. Both HBs will be stronger next year and the WRs room actually is moving in the right direction. On Defense we saw a drop off in CBs, teams that were scoring on Iowa were passing down field to do so at times being open just like yesterday. I am real curious to see how the LBs recover as we lost two legends this year. I think the culture is exciting as only 2 players opted out for the bowl and More players are coming back next year than anticipated. If this Podcast does not get Caden Wetjen for an offseason interview then you will need to change the brand. He is the WALKON legend maybe we should donate some money. Next year Iowa will be loaded with new faces and the great Unknown is exciting.

I like how you guys put it, the “It” factor. Last year felt like a team that pulled the most wins possible for what was on the field, you’d never get 10 wins with that team ever again and that’s the “It” factor. This year felt like a team that just got halfway up a staircase and tripped face first back to the bottom, it never felt like I was watching an Iowa team, felt like an identity was never there even in wins

My thoughts on the defense being a little down this year is partly just how incredibly hard it is to repeat what they did in 22 and 23. I only played at Upper Iowa, but in my experience the average college player starts to decline physically during year 5. It at least happened to me (I was below average). I know that I couldn’t have done a 6th year despite my covid eligibility. I think that age caught up to a couple guys as well

Hate to say it, but when we had 4th and 2 on their side of the field and we did not go for it the wind was taken out of our sails.

Agree 100%. The announcers even said every other team would for it in that situation.

Yes, I was disappointed with the loss, but I also try to put it in perspective. Mizzou is a fringe playoff team with a 5th yr QB and doesn't turn the ball over. That was the difference. There were some good things I saw in the bowl game that Iowa can build on. Also plenty that needs to be worked on.

Cook, had all the time he wanted to throw, only problem he had was taking 5 or 6 sec. To do somthing with a pass and his running lanes were blocked for his escape

Iowa's defense gave up big play after bog play

Sully is good for Iowa - no pieces around him (WR core is practically non-existent). Don't blame the players and 1 or 2 plays - it's the coaches. A coach that punts with 4th down and 2 yards to go in the 4th Q (late) and need to score to tie or W - is gutless.

Down year for Phil’s DB’s

CJ and DT were not recruited and Iowa was lucky to get 'em (by chance). To say we need someone like CJ is really some kind of dream or hope sentiment - not realistic - crazy pills being consumed?

The secondary n defense were reason for 4 losses.. reality.. would've been 11 n 1

The pik was because the end stopped running back. Not Sully fault

D got cooked. Missouri stopped itself a few times

Overall, the O improved this year - this is a good thing - but too little, too late. KFs primary strategy is field position FB - plays to punt and hope for an opponent's TO that's in Iowa's FG range. The past Big10 west div has allowed for this sad and gutless FB play with Ws. Iowa has been mediocre for a long time. The D breaks down against top 20 teams, why? Because the D allows the opponent's QB to execute something and WRs to development their routes - the pass rush doesn't exist. The coaching doesn't put the players in a position to improve and get Ws against top 20 teams. Why does the AD, UI president, or the BoR endure this (Farta's legacy)?
