Hey Spence! I think you made a wise choice in getting the tools you got for the build. I'll be honest with you, I have not used my Parf guide since I made a slab that I put on two saw horses for my work surface, but I am so glad I had it to make the holes. Now, if I ever need to make a new one, or if I want to build a bench, I have it waiting for me. Looking forward to seeing the build series and see what you think of it. We will meet up soon for that coffee! I will have a lot of free time on my hands come the end of next June lol!

Russ! Howdy!! Thanks for commenting. I have the bench completed now and actually deployed it Sunday on a jobsite already (to rave reviews by the homeowners!). Using the Parf guide was very intuitive and easy once I watched Mr. Parfitt's 2 intro videos to his tool. Having plunge bases on all my routers is very effective and am happy to have done that. The TSO guide rail is an amazing tool for easy 90deg cuts that can be trusted (as you know)! Now to get that bench build video edited and posted........ Looking forward to coffee. I will call your HS and leave my number later this week.

Good luck in your bench build. You will love the PARF system. Amazing how accurate it is and how the metric systems gets better tolerances. I have one as well and used it to build my benches. I'd share a pic - but can't attach it apparently. O well. Thanks for sharing your experiences, BTW. I enjoy you posts. Keep up the good work.

Hi Jeffrey! Thanks for commenting and the well-wishes! You are absolutely correct in that I love the Parf system. I learned the system on a 2x3 sheet of 3/4" ply fall off and simultaneously watched part 1 and 2 of Peter Parfitt's intro videos his tool. It worked flawlessly the first time and even I couldn't easily make a mistake. The benchtop is now done and I am surprised at the level of precision this guide tool gave me. Like you, I am a fan of the metric and how easy it is to use and the level of precision it gives over the fractional system. If you ever post a picture online of your build and can, please send along a link. I would appreciate checking it out. And, again, thanks!

@@sdsconstruction Getting back to you with a link to view my PSS & PSB. Excuse the mess. Also thought I posted this a week or so but must've done something wrong. Ikzbin.info/www/bejne/fYG7mXmZqtF2iJo

I wish I would have finished my tops before drilling the dog holes. Something to consider.

Hi Mickey. Thanks for commenting! The first bench (SMART bench) is now done. I will edit a video together of the fabrication and assembly and add it to the world of YT bench videos soon. I agree with your method of what before when. Following what I saw in Ron's build videos on the bench, I went ahead and sanded/chamfered each piece after they were fabricated but before assembly. As far as the top, I did not fasten the top to the bench before the dog holes nor did I sand it before the dog holes. I put the top on my existing bench on sac-strips and layed out/drilled the magic Peter Parfitt dog holes by drilling the pilot holes and flipping the top over and drilling each dog hole freehand with the 20mm bit about an 1/8" in to prevent tear out (which worked!) then flipped the bench and used the guide to drill the 200 holes. Once done, I chamfered the holes topside and then sanded both sides before installing the top on the bench. After final assembly, I chamfered the bench edges and final sanded the exterior.

Iv got a plunge base and one without the one without can base plunge however if I plunge with the router without a base plunge the other that an only plunge without a base plunge the other that cannot base plunge the plunger then I find it quite hard to plunge without farting unless I plunge first with the plunger that plunges without farting lol

I will alert Batman that the Riddler has escaped Gotham Pen once again and is back at weaving his conundrums of uncanniness! Add to that ...... I want to charge a nickel for every time you used the word "plunge!" If you keep it up and I can charge, I can forego the YT ad revenue for a month! Thanks for commenting!
