Greetings from Minnesota friend. I have lost just over 30lbs since October 2020 by cutting carbs alone, basically what you said sugar & flower (grain). Since January I haven't really lost much due to being home more & slacking on the diet some. I am still working on it and plan to loose more. Take care!

For the last few years I've been looking at band saw mills. When I first saw your mill with the round blade didn't see the merit. However, you have convinced me otherwise. Not having to roll the work over to make cuts is really handy. I would dare say safer as well. Your mill does some nice work. I look forward to owning a mill of my own some day. Thanks for sharing.

Looking at that monstrous slab, and knowing you are planning on using it outdoors, my recommendation would be to use 3 legs of 4" pipe with a 10" plate bolted to the bottom side of the bench and the plate welded to the top of the pipe. Then concrete the pipes/legs into the ground a little beyond your frost line. The trick will be getting all three plates leveled to accept the slab before pouring concrete. It might be easier to completely assemble the slab and suspend the entire bench into drilled holes prior to pouring concrete. It'll take good rigging regardless of how you decide to do it.

It’s cool how you can cut horizontally and vertically at the same time, but a Woodmizer and table saw would be less complex? It don’t own a wood mill, so I don’t know. But in my defense, I am born and raised Minnesotan. ‘Minnesota Nice’ is a thing we are rather proud of. Thanks for the compliment.

I never heard of an outdoor workbench (we would just use sawhorses or a picnic table). Will you need some type of sealer to protect against water or sun damage? I know in the southwest, the elements used to eat up our wood picnic tables. I really enjoyed learning about how a milling machine works, so thanks for this series. That's a pretty bench and I'm glad you were able to get down to a surface without many knots. my uneducated guess is 500 lbs.

Density of wood does vary slightly, but according to the internet, the density of Douglas Fir is 33 lbs per cubic foot. Multiply that by the volume: (0.83 ft. x 1.33 ft. x 8.92 ft)(33 lbs/ft^3), and we get that the timber should weigh approximately 325 pounds.
