It is, or is a variant of the tree nut harvesters (without the catch net) so I'll guess many thousands of them get rousted briefly each year. Though I think you'd need to be sleeping pretty hard to not notice the crew working their way down the line of trees. 😛 At least they're not cutting them down.

Not super hard. Once hooked to the tree, you simply give it full lift, and once the weight of the tree is on the chopper and your headed skyward, you let off the power until your stable.

The helicopter picking up the tree might how black walnut trees were stolen from our Southern Natioal Parks. A straight walnut trunk was worth over $10,000.

Tree cutting using helicopters is pretty normal here. Utility companies clear the path between towers, new and existing. Ground crew prep a tree while the helicopter drops the cut one off.

Not quite - it’s getting a loose active fire hose under control. “Strangling the boa constrictor” is a simultaneous jump on top of a boa with 2-10 people to control a section of snake, since it is so strong, it could easily kill a man!😮

The tree-shaker comes from nut harvesting; nut farmers give the trees a shake, and all the ripe and nearly-ripe nuts fall out; the really unripe ones are still too well-anchored to fall. As for the helicopter cutting, my best guess is that the tree was dead/dying and needed to come down, but there was too much around it that could be damaged by a fall, and for whatever reason, they decided it would be cheaper to get the chopper in to lift out the log.
