Former employee here, Buc-ee's was literally the hardest job I have ever had physically and mentally. It takes a toll on your body and overall wellbeing. They're rated 2.7 on indeed for a reason. Lunch "breaks" used to be 5-7 minutes max to eat, use the restroom, and go back to your department, before they changed it to 20 minutes, you could sit and use your phone. Where I worked, they would schedule you 6, and even up to 10 days in a row before you get your 1 or 2 days off before starting back up again, with 8-12 hour shifts. Because they're strict on using the restroom, I intentionally dehydrated myself so I wouldn't have to use the restroom as much, which had a negative impact on my body. Standing for as long as I did, and the days on end doing it, I had nothing left in me to want to get out of bed on my days off before starting my work week again. New people constantly leave, if you last more than a month, the company was lucky you hadn't quit. I understand not using your cell phone on the job, but things come up, kids, medical/family emergencies happen, but we can't attend to that without risk of getting fired? Same thing applies if you have a smart watch too. With the tardy policy, doesn't matter if you got in an accident, flat tire, personal emergency, etc, still get wrote up even if a minute late. The pay is the way it is for a reason, because they need something to bait people in for the toxic work environment. Even if you did work your way up to earn more money, there is a poor work-life balance, easily doing 55+ hour work weeks. We're humans, not machines. There is way more to life than a job that will easily replace you if you dropped dead. How I survived a little over a year at that place I'll never know, it's exploitation at its finest.

I appreciate the exemplary high standards that the employees have to demonstrate while on the job. And I show my appreciation by spending my hard-earned money at these locations. However, if one of these stores can have up to 250 employees, there is no excuse as to why the employees are not allowed a 30 minute break! Even truck drivers get 30 minute breaks and yet, their job involves sitting and driving up to 10 hours a day. These employees are required to stand up throughout their entire shift. Therefore they deserve a 30 minute break too and an actual employee lounge. Do better corporate!

It’s awful. My friends 2 daughters work/worked there. They fired a guy immediately because some chocolate, literally a drop fell on his gloves which he was changing and he licked it and they fired him instantly. And my friends daughter was fired last week for according to them refusing to take out the trash. She was looking for the dumpster because she had never taken it out before and another employee outside said it’s on the other side I’ll take it and they fired her saying that she refused to take out the garbage because she didn’t put it in the dumpster herself. They fire people daily. I honestly think that the managers are required to fire a certain amount of people weekly. And 1 manager is always watching a bank of screens in the back to look for someone to fire. They work them like crazy. They are a nightmare to work for. It’s not a good place to work. So many things they do that they shouldn’t be allowed to do. I do believe the government says that in an 8 hour shift you get 2 paid breaks and 1/2 hour unpaid lunch. No lunch and 5-10 minute breaks. I don’t know how they get away with some of the things they do.

I think the break requirement is based on the state as the federal is that "The federal rule does not require an employer to provide either a meal period or breaks" Which is just downright wrong on so many levels. @@blblawhoo4338 The government isn't needed. The employer and employee both negotiate pay and work conditions already. I’m from California where working an 8 hour shift requires you to have 2 15 minute paid breaks and a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. I also used to live in Arizona where employees aren’t guaranteed any breaks at all. When I was a pizza delivery driver in Arizona, there were times when I would be there for 8 hours and was never allowed a break. Also just because there’s a federal law doesn’t mean a state has to follow it. For example the federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour, yet some of the southern states have a minimum wage that is less than that. The federal minimum wage for employees who earn tips is $2.13 an hour, which hasn’t been raised since 1990. The working culture in this country really has to improve. There are some companies that are following the model of several European countries by having a 32-36 hour work week and they get paid a living wage. Workers who are paid a living wage and work 40 hours or less are happier with their jobs and they are more productive which has been shown to save companies money.

Their not supposed to change the schedule according to their handbook unless you agree to the change but that’s laughable. They have a high turnover because you’re required to do the job of 3 people and no benefits etc and no guaranteed hours even when you’re hired being told you would be guaranteed 40 hours a week. Would you like to weekly have your schedule slashed because corporate wants 500-1000 man hours removed from each store budget that week? Turnover is extremely high and it’s like a revolving door. Retail workers should be paid well with benefits and guaranteed hours. After all who were the most important people during lockdown? Retail employees, truck drivers, and the medical field. That says a lot in my opinion.

I was at a Bucees down in Ft Worth a few years ago and I noticed the cashier seemed like on-edge kinda nervous looking, so I asked if she was ok...proceeds to tell me her dad was having open heart surgery that day but she cant have her phone on during shift so she was scared as hell of getting off work that day. I bet management sits on their big fat butts in their offices and get to stuff their faces while also going to the bathroom any time they want. No bathroom break, well they better be ready to mop a puddle under me everytime if I can't hold my piss and not get mad at me because this is Buc-Ee's policy not mine. And I am glad they lost that court case they put out on that one former employee, serves them right. I'm sure there are some good things that you personally appreciate from a union, but there are probably also tons of bad sides you personally or others disagree with.

I work for the St. Augustine Buc-ee's and much of this is over exaggerated. Some of it is true, such as the cell phone policy. You are given the number for the only line in the building and you are allowed to give that number to family. If something happens, they call in and the manager lets you know what happened. If you are caught in your cell phone at any time except your 20 minute break, you are likely to lose your job. As for the hair, unnatural colors aren't allowed, but you are allowed to grow it out. There are chairs in the back area for you to sit while eating, and breaks are 20 minutes, paid. Tattoos are allowed, but you have to keep them covered, so either wear sleeves or a long sleeve shirt. You start earning PTO immediately, and can use it at any time in 8 hour incriments. Once you've accumulated 40 hours of PTO, you can cash it out as a check, or, if you don't use any PTO, or don't use all that you have, you can roll it to the next year. You will earn the equivalent of 3 weeks worth of PTO in 1 calander year. The company does offer health benefits including medical, dental, and vision, but it is a bit pricey. The company does promote from within, and offers paid relocation for members of management who move to a newly opened location. Even low level managers make solid money, with salaries going as high as $250k for General Store Managers. Buc-ee's is strict because they have become so big that they have to be strict to maintain the level of excellency people have come to expect of them. Play by the rules, and you'll be ok

Been there as a Customer. Working there? If it was the last place on Earth. Not even then. I have worked in Retail since I was 16. I am 58. Old right? Well, you all get there. From what I saw..chaos pure. I observe. Since I want to relocate. I am a hard worker. From what I have experienced there as a Customer, it was like I would imagine a Cattle Drive would be more relaxing to participate in? I just wanted to get out of there. And that fast. Put the CEO's and whoever developed these gas stations in there to work. It would be fun to watch. Pure Chaos. Clean yes. I just felt for the Employees. As we "Herded through this mayhem", I just wanted to get out and far away from that place. I didn't want to get anything anymore. I was hungry at the time as we had skipped lunch. Out of there and far away. I would never stop there again. I would rather push, or carry my car if it were out of fuel! Or just walk. It was a one time experience that I do not care to experience again. As a customer. I can't imagine, and I tried what the employees are going through. A nightmare I imagine. Highly advertised I believe in Athens, my daughter lives not too far away from there....wanted to check the place out. I almost had a panic attack. Getting out of there was the most pleasant feeling. Now to the prices. Very expensive. A couple sandwiches...I was starving. Nothing spectacular. As I said, I just wanted to get out of there. One was $12...something in a bun, the other close to $ 9.00 in a bun, and a bag of chips. Paid 40 something. To think, and I said to my daughter..."Seriously? You dragged me here. We could have had a nice quiet, peaceful dinner elsewhere." In a restaurant? l felt she dragged me to a place of Hell. But I guess one must experience that? BTW. It was so busy there, if I would have pulled my legs up, I probably would have been carried through by the crowds. This video is great. Not for people with anxiety. Honestly, don't get me wrong here. If you don't have anxiety and want to experience what it feels like. Here you go. Got flashbacks from watching it. Like I said...I got a ton of experience as an Employee, lead sales, Assistant Manager, Manager. No. Just no. And I am a very calm and patient person. That's pretty much what I envision the threshold of hell looks like.

Making your employees slave for 8+hours around delicious smelling food and snacks only to get 15 minutes where they might get to maybe eat something paltry enough to keep them going for the rest of the shift is wrong. Just because the break laws get skirted because buccees can afford to pay fines doesn’t mean they should be allowed to practice business like this. The break laws need to change to the point where your business gets punished for real if it violates labor laws. I’m not pro union when your business can operate without one,but buccees could probably use a labor union if these are the agonizing work conditions.

Not an expert, but it is hard to start a Union where the workers do not have job skills. Second, most of these “Bucees” are in Texas and the South which have “right to work” laws which are anti Union. Third, companies like this listen everyday like the Stasi over anyone even mentioning organizing a Union. Supposedly according to an employee, employees are not allowed to speak with one another outside of doing their labor. Like one employee asking another on the floor “Hey, did you see the game last Sunday?” I have never been in a Bucees and probably never will.

I just got hired yesterday. I start next month. This video makes me nervous 😂 I knew of the high turnover rate but I figured most places have that nowadays anyway but apparently it’s worse at bucees. Wish me luck

This information is either outdated or only certain locations have this going on. I have a couple friends that work at a Bucees and their lunch is 30 mins and 2 10 minute breaks, while working 8 hr. days.

all these job requirements are well known long before you're hired. They DO have lunch breaks and you're NOT on your feet 8 hours a day. My nephew works there. IF ANY OF THESE RIDICULOUS ACCUSATIONS WERE TRUE OSHA WOULD'VE SHUT THEM DOWN ON DAY ONE AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT If you don't like the job then LEAVE and find another gig 🙃
